I need help in advancing my DoL classes.

Guys, I really need your guidance.

I really want to get into crafting/gathering more so than levelling my other battle classes. (have DRG at 50 and WHM and PLD at 30.)

I currently have a lv35 Botanist and im not even sure of what items to actually STOCK or KEEP. Gathering 20 of each material i could gather on my botanist fills up my 3 retainers. With all this talk about levelling all 3 DoL classes at the same time, how can I manage my inventory? Is there a guide out there that is updated on what items to gather or atleast keep a stock of?

As for crafting (I know that DoH have their own forums but please hear me out, it is related to my concern), How do I go about it as well? is there a guide on which leves to do every 5 levels for efficient levelling?

I just need some guidance. Im really concerned about inventory space.

You should be, because Culinary alone is going to take A LOT of inventory space. You're going to need basically EVERY space in your inventory dedicated to your skilling. You may need basically all of your Retainers inventory too.

Between the items you need and the items you make, be prepared for a lot of headache. (or so I'm told, I'm in a skill-heavy FC and I dont train all my skills)

You manage your inventory by selling stuff you don't need right now. When you do need it go out and harvest more.

Also sell stuff that lists on the market board at the NPC sale price because it will almost be available at that price and is probably nearly useless.

Do triage all the time. For example, don't keep both LOGS and LUMBER in your inventory, if you can CRP all the logs into lumber.

If you have a crafting recipe that actually needs a log, go chop another one or buy a few.

The point that NQ and HQ of each item, need their own inventory slots, also gives you heartache all the time. I have found myself cursing when I get HQ strikes for some items, because it takes another slot away... heh.

You really can't skill up all classes at the same time, your inventory would be completely screwed. You talk about materials, but what about all the different gear sets needed? Gear changes every 5-10 levels so assuming every piece of gear hgets replaced every 10 levels starting at level 10....that's 55 inventory slots just for gear.

Sell stuff you don't need right or put it into the FC chest, and then take what you need out later. Stuff isn't THAT expensive that you need to hoard everything, if you have no idea when you'll actually use that material or item, sell it and buy it back or harvest more when you need it.

Unless I know I will be grinding crafting leves I don't keep anything on my retainers if I can go gather a stack in 30 minutes. Sell it on in the markets or NPC it. I might hang on to some HQ if I know I might be trying to HQ synth stuff.

if your keeping stuff you may as well have 99, of each.

I personally have a crazy backlog if mats I collected whilst lvl'ing that I'm not using.

I always keep the base mats rather than crafting up the mat tree.. like as mentioned with logs into lumber. you could do that and save space but I would sell the lumber and keep the logs as converting the logs will use shards/crystals/clusters that you don't need to use right away. plus you may not end up using all those up-scaled mats for months maybe years.!! this applies to all base mats as far as I'm concerned including things that only turn into one thing.

with cul you should only keep the mats you need to make that one recipe your grinding on or make for profit everything else is vender trash.

other classes you can lvl at the same time recycling gear as you go but that takes longer so its best to raise the classes you really want to progress in first as that way its the most fun for you. use all leves on crafters, gather stuff to lvl gatherers until lvl 40 then go alittle bit into leves as well. create one of each recipe as well,,. except cul, unless you really want to. aim for max quality every time for the extra experience points gained. when grinding make things that stack as you dnt need 99 of any piece of gear, you wont be able to sell it quick enough.

fisher you buy to 50 with hq leve turn ins all the way from the get go to save yourself 100hrs or so. buy the fish of mb, if you cant get hq buy nq or use leves below your current level to get hq turn ins. if there's none available at all just wait and keep checking. or go fish, your call.

if you want all maxed as quickly as possible, expect to take at least 6-8 weeks to do this playing all day everyday, especially if your doing story stuff along the way

oh and one more thing sell your stuff cheap, near cost if need be as you wil be producing a lot of stuff you just wont need.

I ended up buying the 2 additional retainers because I was running out of inventory space for all my crafting mats but here is what I do:

While leveling gathering, whenever I come across a new item I look it up on http://ffxiv.gamerescape.com and check what recipes use it. I actually even go as far as counting how many of the item I'll need to make everything (I'm a completionist) and gather at least that many. Then every so often I'll go through my retainers' inventories and check each item to see if I still need them at my crafting levels. If not, I vendor/market them.

O.o This is exactly what I'm doing currently (all DoH to 43/44 as of yesterday). My DoL classes are spread out a bit more though (50 MIN, 47 BTN, 37 FSH). I regear all my DoH classes at once so I only need one gear set (besides tools of course) to carry around. Hitting 50 will be epic!

That being said, I make good use of the FC house materials npc for basic mats and gather what I need otherwise. I organize my retainers according to crafting type (yes my CUL/ALC retainer's inventory overflows) and sell off what I no longer need. I try to get the GC turn in list done every day; at least the starred items.

    Good luck!
