I'll do it for free 7 days a week, Just so I can stop seeing people crying about RMT tells.

I played from early 2004 to mid 2013 and I can tell you that is a lie. You never seen one RMT shout. lol

I think some people are over exaggerating with the amount of RMT tells they get in game, Either that or people don't do anything. I get maybe 1-2 tells a day, and some days I play for 10rs+. But then again I don't sit in town, I'm actually doing dungeons.

For the same reason that there aren't any community support moderators or admins.

The time it would take for a Square Employee to train a random on the policies, what you can and can't do, how to handle certain situations, when to investigate, when to track, when to temp ban, when to permanent ban players/accounts would cost the company more than they are willing to spend. You also have to remember that you gotta have a watchdog for the watchdog for the watchdog to make sure everyone is adhering to the guidelines in place (which also costs more money).

Personality also comes into play. They don't want someone in that position that will ban players because they don't like the other player(s) or are mentally unbalanced.

You also have to remember that the person in that position would have elevated settings and logins to Square's CRM/Data Centers/Account System (where credit card information is stored). It's unheard of that Square is planning to release an API for XIV, there is no way they would allow an outside source access to their back end system on top of their billing and payment matrix (that's a lawsuit waiting to happen).

In EQOA, community moderators were also GM's who would log in on player servers & would handle any harassment or exploit issues. Sometimes within moments of the report. They could be visible or invisible to other players. (whatever happened to Sapphyra?)

FFXIV is missing that direct kind of direct presence.

I don't know about a player based "Eorzea Watch"... so many possibilities for problems on both sides.

I am going to suggest a system that borrows from League of Legends Tribunal. Here is how it would work, when a character is black listed multiple times in a short time frame, say, 10 times in 10 minutes, then that entire account would be squelched, and the characters last 10 minutes of chat would be logged. Now, on the Lodestone, that chat log (with names edited of course) would be posted and players could vote as to if the person in question deserves punishment or not. Depending on the result in say, a 24 hour time period, one of a few actions would be taken.
<10% punish : Instant unsquelch, no GM involvment.
<40% punish: Unsquelch with GM investigation followup.
<70% punish: GM review, remaining squeched.
    >90% punish: Temp ban with GM investigation followup.
To be fair and prevent abuse, if you are one of the 10 blacklisters, you can not vote on your own case. And to motivate players, SE could offer a nominal amount, say 50 or so, of GC seals for each "correct" vote.

This would solve the problem in two fronts. First of all, this would allow the players to effectivly limit RMT spam with little potential for abuse. Secondly, it would force RMT advertizers to throttle their adverts on each individual account or risk making that account useless in a very short amount of time. This combined with the existing ban schedule of mule/farmer accounts would possible make the cost of doing buisness too high for the RMT companies to use this game as a valid source of income.

Please no. This idea and any others that rely on the players is guaranteed to get abused. There are far far more effective countermeasures already being used in other MMO's -- NOW, if only Square Enix would copy one those so we get passed this problem some time this decade...

Players shouldn't have to police their own game, they're suppose to play it and enjoy.

Pretty sure they'd just pay employees to do this instead of having the player base do it.

I don't want players to do that kind of stuff. As some users pointed it out, they'll probably abuse of its power. Let the SE employees take care of it.
