    In Game Chat

So I've been playing this game for awhile (just unlocked Scholar) and I just never see anyone talking. It makes the game feel kind of dead. I don't know if it's just that I'm not at end game zones or what. Also, I have no idea what the difference is between /shout and /yell are. Halp!

I haven't seen many people talking either. Of course I'm still in one of the starting cities but it does seem quiet compared to the number of people milling around. From what I understand from XI, shout was confined to the one area while yell could be seen throughout a number of zones, or something like that.

Shout is over the whole zone you're currently in, while yell is 'over a large area'. So not the whole zone, but still quite a bit.

You can join various linkshell groups/a free company for chat & progression. Keep in mind having a conversation via shout/yell (especially on a JP server) is considered rude ^^

    Shout is the whole zone.
Yell is a large area but something smaller than the whole zone .. it has never been well defined.

Most people will use party, free company, or linkshell chats.
There is no global chat. I was trying an open beta this weekend and was amazed at the amount of pointless global chatter. It is a very different feel.

Hear my very first piece of actual chat rather than gold selling spam yesterday after 12 hrs of gametime acc to steam. Ironically enough I was trying to do the 'how to chat' quest which invilved typing 'I come in peace.' into chat. I couldn't get it to work, and then someone advised me to add a . at the end of my sentence.

I find it hysterical that that happened. Who uses full stops in chat?

How can i find one of these chat linkshells, btw?

Checking the forum of your server is a start, as there are always people advertising their linkshells (ls for short) in there.

Otherwise you can create your own by purchasing one from a linkshell vendor found in each of the three cities (they'll be marked on the map with an orb icon and have the word 'linkshell vendor' listed under the NPC's name), and then after creating it you can invite people to it freely.

It should be noted also that a lot of people regard linkshells as more than just being a chat channel, they're run almost like miniature guilds, because the fact you can be a member of multiple linkshells while being restricted to being in only one Free Company.

Chat does seem pretty dead compared to other games, but then I guess it is better than the nonsense you often find in some as well. I joined a nice friendly Free Company for some chat and groups etc. and the game is much the better for it.

Does anyone know of any rp (role play) linkshells in Ragnorak? That seems like a more interesting way to communicate and I think would make game play a bit more fun.

I agree with you! I am so happy that I don't see line after line of useless sick nonsense that are on most of the other MMO I have played.
