Also, you should know that when SE bans an account, it is not removed from your Blacklist and it is not marked as "Deleted". From what I understand, this is a deliberate move on SE's part to prevent new bots from being made with the same names.

They can't remove names from our BL because they are client side. The server cost is too high to be bothering with that.
what they can do is add tags on their end that would indicate banned or suspended characters.

RMT will always be a issue with mmo's. I do wish we had a report spam option instead of just black listing the name and having to clear your black list every other week.

Here, I'll derp it down for you.

1) They do not delete banned characters. (they have their own reasons for that, And I'm not going to get in to it.)

2) BL is client side because that is a process totally up to the user. there is no reason for them to keep track of your optional data that
has no bearing on the ability to play the game. this is a cost saving measure, same as action bars, UI, and Macros. These are user settings
and have no effect on gameplay. The cost to manage the remotely is too high and would just bog the servers down.

3) No company can change files on your computer without your consent. When you change your UI, the action of you doing that is your consent.
SE Cannot change files stored on your computer without your consent, and/or posting a log of changes made.

4) Yes, the server cost is too high to be checking the tens to hundred of thousands login's per hour over all servers. it's is not necessary.

Delete them all. RMT account only show (delete) when the user has deleted the account.
If Task forces dealt with it the name stays so it can no be reused.

I've been playing for a month now and am about to register my monthly subscription. I've just noticed that my blacklist is at 120/200, filled with only gil sellers.

I'm a WoW veteran and so I just want to know if this is just an acceptable downside of this game. FF14 is a superior game in almost every aspect, but during the same time period on WoW I'd receive only a couple RMT spam messages...

It is very normal, have had to clear my blacklist from the top a couple times this past week alone. Also being a WoW vet this is definitely wayyyy more than I had been used to. In the 5 years I've been playing I probably only got a handful of /tells and reported some spams in trade chat, but beyond that it was never as prevalent as it is in FF XIV. Been playing it since 2.0 launch as well and I agree it's a much better game as a whole, but the RMT situation needs more control, imo. As to what they could do that's beyond me.

Usually "cost too high" is through a perspective. Just because a Lamborghini is expensive to me doesn't make the cost too high for people like Bill Gates. If they have the reported "2 million users" there's no way server costs would be too high from their perspective. Also, its kind of their own fault with how they set up servers in the first place. The servers could be set up in a lot more efficient way than currently are. Also, what makes it any different from the game checking to see if a character is deleted or server transferred? Rhetorical question, no reason it can't. It really doesn't add anything that's not already here.
