    Is this normal?

I've been playing for a month now and am about to register my monthly subscription. I've just noticed that my blacklist is at 120/200, filled with only gil sellers.

I'm a WoW veteran and so I just want to know if this is just an acceptable downside of this game. FF14 is a superior game in almost every aspect, but during the same time period on WoW I'd receive only a couple RMT spam messages...

Someone will get into a more detailed explanation but I can say that WoW has some more limitations like trials can't send tells to strangers and you're only allowed to send so many at in a period of time, things like that.

WoW has a system where when you recieve spam, all you do is right click their name and select "report spam". This sends a report to the GMs with all the information they need to investigate it. Plus, once at least 5 people report someone for spam, then that account is prevented from using the chat on every character until an investigation occurs. I believe this is why their system is effective at limiting spam.

That sounds like it can easily be abused !

Start deleting your oldest blacklisted names from the top to clear more room. Those accounts don't exist for long so it's ok to do.

It's expected for now. RMT have been increasing their advertising lately, so it'll eventually blow up in SEs face whether they want to ignore it or not. Once RMT have too much supply of gil, they'll do a sale that's just unbelievable and almost stupid of the player base NOT to take part in it... assuming of course there's no fear of keylogging and the like from their sites. That's exactly what happened with FFXI at one point in time. Until that time comes however, yes, it's normal in Asian MMOs. SE's outlook on communication in general is odd, to say the least.

I know this isn't the kind of response you are looking for but you don't need to let it clog your blacklist. At most there will be 3 active accounts spamming (usually it's just 1 or 2 on my server). Clear out your list entirely and ban the handful that come in. I delete/clear out my blacklist about once or twice a week. Is it ideal? no. But I find it fairly easy to manage so for me it's a pretty mute issue.

On Moggle I get maybe about one or two a day. If you don't blacklist them they will send you more. I cleared my list out the other day. Just do it often as the accounts will get banned swiftly anyway.

WoW has a global city chat called trade so they can spam that to reach the maximum amount of people so they don't need individual contact whereas we don't have such a channel. It would be nice if there was a report and blacklist feature.

Also, you should know that when SE bans an account, it is not removed from your Blacklist and it is not marked as "Deleted". From what I understand, this is a deliberate move on SE's part to prevent new bots from being made with the same names. Anyway, this means that of the 120 names on your list, the vast majority are already banned and it is safe to delete them from your blacklist without having to worry about getting new tells from them.

If you see a name on your blacklist marked "Deleted", it means that the gilseller managed to delete their character before SE had a chance to ban it.
