I play this game with a game pad and would like to see two major changes to the game pad: (assuming a ps3 type gamepad)

1. the ability to hold R2 or L2 and hit triangle, circle, etc.. to execute a macro (i.e. triangle does macro 1, circle macro 2, etc... Even better would be to have this system execute abilities you have assigned to those buttons) This would allow actions to quickly be entered using a gamepad, instead of tapping to the left and right to find an ability. I have seen this system used before in games like dragon age from bioware and it works great for quickly using abilities, would really love to see this for FFXIV!

2. secondly, I know you could use a gamepad button in ffxi to go between different windows chat, main, items. This is great as you don't have to use a mouse/or keyboard to get to them. Of most importance for me, is a way to get to the usable items menu to use an item in battle on the controller, like a potion or food to eat.

I think these two suggestions would really improve the user experience and for the PS3 version to be successful, I think the game will really need to relay very little on a keyboard (keyboard should only be used for chat with others (I plan on using the attachable texting pad that snaps to a ps3 controller)) and play like a console game with easy and fast gamepad controls. Likewise, the PC gamepad should reflect these possibilities as well.
