There was a thread on this subject in the Lore forum recently (found here), and the general consensus is that it's actually the Burning Wall in Eastern Thanalan - the part just before then where 'Derplander' and his party materialize 'five years later after Carteneau' is Snakemolt in the South Shroud (near the entrance to Amdapor Keep and the Ahltyk Deity Stone). Hence they ride down from Snakemolt to the Burning Wall in a way that is actually not possible gameplay wise - that area is probably just meant to be symbolic of the landscape between the Black Shroud and Thanalan without actually showing how it is exactly.

And besides, considering Derplander was actually fighting at the Carteneau Flats which players actually never had any access to (the events of the last day of 1.0 had the player fighting in a nearby area called Camp Brittlebark as Carteneau was not accessible by the player) this just seems natural that Derplander and his friends seem to be able to access places and things normal players can't.

I actually think it really is meant to be the Crystal Tower - during the actual video the upper part isn't shown, suggesting that the actual rendering used didn't include the upper section for simplicity's sake, and that wallpaper simply used the same rendering, thus revealing the incomplete tower. But I guess only Square Enix Visual Works knows the answer to that.

But it would make sense to be the Crystal Tower - it's in the right place (if you accept the crystalline structure to be the Burning Wall in Thanalan) and as the Burning Wall has a piece of Dalamud within in, hence the Binding Coil of Bahamut, it would therefore showcase the two end-game raids for ARR - the Crystal Tower and the Binding Coil. Simple really.

I thought it was pretty clear to see the roegadyn PLD said to Derplander "Are you alright?", as his mouth movements definitely fit that phrase. Or maybe I'm just good at lipreading.

His mouth only moves twice, IIRC.

My lipreading skillz think he's saying "Now what?" Which seems to make sense, given what just happened to them. (I'm still not sure where those Chocobos came from, though.)

If you pay close attention to his lips and the way his cheeks move you can clearly see that he says..

I could be very sentimental and believe that their chocobo's waited 5 years for them, magically sensed where they would materialize and were waiting for them. Or not.

I honestly have no idea where they came from :/

I kinda figured it was a route we didn't actually get. My only issue with that being Crystal Tower is the direction of the aether spire, if it IS supposed to be the Burning Wall, then Derplander is coming in East Thanalan from the west somewhere, (putting CT somewhere behind him, lower left cornerish) and we're looking towards the Shroud... I guess it COULD be the just expanse of the Shroud that was uplifted near the Second coil, but i think that'd be on the right side of the spire in the picture... Maybe its further, like Ala Mhigo? It'd be pretty cool to see what kind of destruction Garlemald faced as well. I know its not the Nail though, that piece of Coil was in almost sideways, out of a mountain.

And they DO show the whole CT, when the behemoth roars, it pans all the way to the top. It literally looks like the top is MAYBE a tad bigger than an FC mansion :P its really slender, I just don't think that was meant to be it in that clip.

Why do people call that warrior derplander? Just curious :3

1.You have the outspoken 'we're loving it' mob who are probably ignoring issues.
2.In addition, there's the optimistic 'I'm having fun and waiting for more' group, who are willing to overlook some things and hope others are fixed soon.
3.Then there's the 'I really want this to work, but it isn't' group, who see some faint promise in the game, but don't have a lot of faith that the developers will fix the large problems anytime soon.
4.Lastly, there's the 'I dislike it, therefore no one can like it' group.

Hehe, it's an old meme on this forum dating back to version 1.0 - I believe it was Vilheim and a couple of other people first started calling him that due to the silly faces he kept making in the trailers long before ARR's launch.

For lack of anything else (official or otherwise) to call him the name kind of affectionately stuck - it's not being derogatory towards him, as lets face it, we'd all want him in our parties, even if he did do some silly things (like let his gear condition degrade so badly a single Garlean gunshot destroyed his AF helm, and left his Bravura behind on the battlefield when Lousioix teleported him to the future).
