    You know how in some FF games characters don't change appearance when you give them ?

    New armor?

    Glamour plain and simple. Red Mage in FF1 keeps the iconic look because he glamoured his AF. Celes, despite being a heavy armor user wears a leotard because, you guessed it, glamour.
