"Join In Progress" Lets you leave DF Roulette without 30m Penalty

This bug was fixed in 2.28.

    Problem:

Checking the "Join In Progress" checkbox lets you leave a brand-new Duty Finder Roulette instance without incurring the 30 minute penalty. (You can be one of the original four/eight party members and get this to work.) The duty can be left before or after the "Duty Commenced" words appear and the circle barricade drops away. This bug is being used by tanks to selectively leave instances of Halitali HM or Lost City of Amdapor in favor of getting Brayflox HM.

(EDIT: Removed the bug report info since SE has moved this to "Website Feedback & Suggestions".)

    Steps:
    1. Select "Join-In-Progress".
    2. Select the Expert Duty Roulette.
    3. Wait for a Join Duty window to appear. (The Duty should be new and not show a progress indicator.)
    4. Enter the duty.
    5. Wait for the cut-scene and skip it.
    6. You can now leave the duty without the 30m penalty, even if the "Duty Commenced" message appears and the "circle" drops.
6a. Bring up the duty window.
    6b. Select Leave.

The bug is tied to "Join-In-Progress". If you do not select "Join-In-Progress", you will receive the 30m penalty no matter how quickly you leave the duty.

This is referring to brand new duties, not already existing duties that are joined in progress.

I don't think it's a bug. It's designed around the fact you can enter a party in progress with one afk person. Would not be fair to get a penalty for that if you leave

I'm not talking about actually joining a party in progress. The "Join In Progress" flag lets you leave a brand new duty immediately without suffering the penalty.

This is causing people much grief because tanks can leave a duty roulette that they don't like.

Hi Ankle Biter I've seen you sometimes on Gilgamesh /wave

Sorry if it's a silly question, and while it's not really related to your situation, I thought I'd ask anyway if that's okay, but couldn't someone use the "Join in Progress" to know what type of dungeon it was? i.e. if one dungeon is 0/3 (or 1/3, etc) because it has 3 main bosses, then if it's 0/1 wouldn't that possibly mean it's one of the story trials, like Ifrit, etc? (which I assume is precisely what they are trying to get into in the first place, because it's 'faster')

Add this together with your bug and it gives tanks (or whoever else does this) massive control in selecting what they want. (assuming I'm right!?)

Lily: Then still your heart... You are dear to me as life itself.

Yes, people can use the "Join In Progress" to (somewhat) determine what dungeon they are about to be placed in, as long as they are offered to join a party in progress. They won't see a progress indicator if they are being placed into a fresh dungeon.

I've never seen a 0/1 on Low Level Duty Roulette, but I have seen */4. (Sastasha or Tam Tara). If you queue up for High Level Duty Roulette and get a popup with */4, you know you're going to be placed in Pharos.

    Heya guys ^^

I've only used the "join in progress" once so far, and I don't intend until new is coming (such as receiving an actual invitation from a specific party you want to join)

One friend was stuck for more than 30 mins waiting for a Tank that decided he wanted to leave.

Received request in LS (is there a Tank that would join us to complete our dungeon?)

I answered: yeah for sure, I have a bit of time left before Zzz! (I received a million thanks ^^)

What happened: click join in progress.. *hop into another group.. this whole group were like: YAY!!! finally we've been waiting so long, the Tank decided to leave blablabla..

Me, checking around to see if that was my "friend" party: nope.

Now.. Feeling guilty, I explained the situation to this "group B".. I clicked Leave, and to my surprise, no 30 min penalty!

I asked my friend in LS, still no tanks.. I decided to try again: same Group B o.O

What to do in these conditions?

To ask my friends to abandon so we can regroup, starting from scratch again for them?

What about the Group B that made me feel >.< for not helping them, due to this askward situation?

    sigh..

This may be why there is no penalty for leaving a dungeon that you join in progress. You have a perfectly good justification for leaving.

The problem, though, is that this penalty immunity is being extended to dungeons that you start fresh. If I have the "Join In Progress" flag set, I can leave a freshly started dungeon with no penalty. If I do not have the flag set, I get the penalty.

It's working as intended imo, you decided to "join in progress" a group who supposedly needed your class. Since it made you as a "fill in" you have the rights to leave without penalty because u were a "fill in" and not part of the original party.
I noticed this since 2.1 lol and it makes a lot of sense in a way.

The whole "join in progress" term technically explains why you can leave without getting a penalty.

I'm talking about leaving a group where I was one of the original four. The dungeon is not "in progress". It's completely fresh. No mobs have been killed. No spells have been cast. No "Heyas" have been exchanged.

Though, from reports, you can do this even if there's been a little combat. Honestly, the flag should be renamed "Let me leave any party without the 30 minute penalty."

I don't think should exist a penalty for join in progress. The penalty has been already being applied to the person who first left (and you replaced).

    Think that way:
I always leave join in progress checked and I DF for Lostm Ampador/Bray HM for getting myth/soldiery when I don't have a group. At least TWO or THREE times per day I join a completely empty Lost Amp. Yeah, I join and there is like, just me and monsters. And somewhat another dps who just joined first than me.

Imagine I having to wait 15~30min at queueing to be placed in a fail DF and having a 30min penalty because YOU are complaining?
So yeah, -1 to this thread.
