Pure Marauder (or any other class) viable?

I've got my Marauder to lvl 18, and got some advice from a very nice person in Shatansha dungeon on how to inprove my game etc. Get Flash and Provoke, by levelling a Gladiator up to wherever (lvl24, maybe?).

I was wondering, are there any players who choose to not do thos sort of thing, and is it considered a viable playstyle by the community?

Many choose not to do it. But honestly by not doing you will never be able to tank as well, and in later primal fights they can't be completed without provoke for tank swaps. Flash is highly recommended in order to gain threat at beginning of fight, very helpful to in early dungeons so you don't burn all your tp to fast on overpower

So what's the difference between doing that and just having Flash and Provoke as lvl 20-35 Marauder abilities then? Apart from the rather humiliating 'go back to being a noob and kill shrews and fleas' quests?

Well only a gladiator can unlock it. I'd strongly suggest just doing leves to level 20 then a couple fates to. You can even use same armor to just need a sword and shield

When I equipped my starting sword, i became naked. Poeople just grind as fast as possible to get the second class abilities?

Seems a bit silly. But ok.

You may need the level 1 armor again to start but you can level any speed you wish. Leves would just be fastest.

You have to get Gladiator to 15 minimum to get your Warrior job anyway, which you can't tank without. Also, keep your marauder class higher than you gladiator and you'll be getting a +50% XP bonus on your gladiator. It'll go fast.

Cheers for the advice, all. I need to think about this levelling system. There's sonething not quite right about it, bit I can't put my fingervon what exactly it is...

I've met a couple people who stopped playing because there isn't an evasion tank or berserker/dps type tank (expected something different from MRD/WAR) in the game (at least not yet). I'm not sure what to say about expecting something different; this is how the classes/leveling are set up in this game.... Cross class skills are the meat and potatoes here. You can't do your job effectively without them (or at least AS effectively). And to unlock any job, you need to have the sub class leveled to 15.

eta: Oh, and I suggest keeping your racial starting clothes with you. That way you're never naked when starting a new class.

If you just want to play Marauder, you will never be effective at 50, not even talking endgame.
_ Playing Marauder only prevents you from getting Warrior job. This affect your ability to tank greatly due to missing out on key abilities like Defiance, Inner Beast, Steel Cyclone, Infuriate and Unchained as well as stats boost.
_ Playing Marauder only doesn't give you access to cross-class abilities, most notably Provoke which all tanks should have by the time they get to fights that require tank-swapping mechanics or to hold aggro better in general, getting mobs back from overzealous DPS or healer for example.
