The RMT spammers have taken to Yelling and Shouting as well now. Maybe one option would be for SE to allow moderators who could delete these accounts straight away instead of waiting hours on end for something to be done. Its getting to the point where the only chat will soon be confined to FC's and Parties. My Tell has been off for ages now and it makes me look ignorant. Not Happy.

A volunteer force with the ability to delete characters? Yeah, no thanks, too much abuse potential (yes, sure, can be reversed, but still). I would rather have a volunteer force that can mute a spammer from public channels and tells (and doing so automatically sends a report that are quickly checked). The target gets no indication that they have been muted (so the spambot won't detect it). Party, linkshell and FC chat would still work. Abuse is still possible, but at least it's not as bad as having to wait for character restoration.
I don't understand what's so tough about it anyway can't they just hire a few GM's for the single purpose of finding and immediately banning the RMT's? Idk, have some algorithm that flags people sending over 200 tells a minute, then if the message is something like "Buy gil buy gil good luck 100% handiwol< guaranteed 5 minute real delivery" just BANNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN them.
The default hotkey used for all chat channels involve the Alt key.
Sidenote, hands up every FFXI-player who ASAP changed it to Ctrl? =3 /waves hand
I also don't undersatnd why there would be GM available to handle players discipline (ie. ninja loot) while no GM to handle RMT tell ^^;
The spam situation has become intolerable, to the point that I've shunted tells to another window.
Here's what I'd like to see to improve the situation:
1) A separate spam blacklist that's different from the "I hate this person" blacklist. With more slots.
2) Auto-spam reporting. Right-click a tell, "report spam" would auto-send a spam report to SE and put them on the spam blacklist. Once a number of people spam a person, it automatically turns off their ability to send tells until a GM reviews and whitelists them if this was in error, which it usually won't be.
3) Level 1 characters should not be able to send tells or shouts. Seriously, it doesn't take that long to get to level 2 or even 5.
4) You shouldn't be able to send the same SHOUT more than once.
5) A "delete all in blacklist" button. I don't want to spend an hour deleting old probably deleted RMTs from the blacklist every two weeks.
@Dragonwings
I agree 200%!
1), 2), 3) were all implemented in Rift, and it made life much, much better. If one game can do it, then this one can.
I would make a "Spammer's List" that you could add a spammer. It would be erased when the player logs out of the game or quits. It would be independent of the blacklist. Since by the time the player logs out, the spammer has either been taken down or committed hari-kari.
Some of the suggestions I've seen are a bit too draconian for my taste.
