How can this game not have built in voice chat?

Maybe it's just the FFXI player in me, but I never saw a point to VC. I'm used to putting down controller, typing, picking up the controller again between abilities. It's not "efficient" I suppose, but I'm used to it because that's all we had (the M&K controls were crazy weird). I've tried VC during raids lately, and just find it distracting and takes me out of the game. I do much better, personally, when I don't have to say/hear anything and just focus on the game and dodge.

I don't think it's the same for others, but if you put it out there it can cause more problems than it helps imo.

Seriously though, while I can understand some of the reasons why, I really do not see the point of including a feature such as this. The claim that it's due to different cultures or people who don't use voice chat, it's not like you'd suddenly have a gun to your head demanding you use it. It would be a very handy feature for running Dungeons out of Duty Finder and could easily be turned off if your party turns out to be a troll-fest. I think with FFXIV being on multiple platforms is a big reason this should have been considered as an optional feature.

I do not wish deal with 13 - 15 years old kids, with loud music, screaming, calling you NOOB x100 times, pet sounds etc.

In A Skype Call, Vent, Mumble and teamspeak

You can control who is joining your groups and you can establish rules

1- No loud music
2- No Screams
3- No unkown people

Voice chat will only get the raids worse. After a long fucking day of work, all i want is play the game with my GF in peace, i do not wish SUPPORT other people -_-

1. square doesn't want to force it on people(as stated earlier, some people will attempt to force people that don't want to use it, into using it), 2. text chat abuse will be supplemented by vocal abuse, 3. There would be a massive amount of background noise from people that don't know how to set up their mic properly(forcing people to mute that guy, who then in turn talks to himself and gets pissed off because he's being ignored, and would then come to the forums to bitch about it), 4. there would be more trolling in VC then there would be proper use of it, 5. people who are like me don't want to hear stupid stoners using bongs and thinking they're cool because they smoke weed(yes, there are people that cannot stand it when people do this), 6. drunk people, 7. people that cannot hear(deaf) cannot utilize the feature and are thus kicked, or left alone, or are singled out because of their disability(they already have enough issue with people requiring 3rd party VC, do we really need to make them feel left out even more), 8. cost, 9. its more BS that people will cry about on the forums when there is no valid reason for the whining(assuming that you are entitled to something is no ta valid reason), etc.

There are more reasons to not use a built in VC then there are to use it. Using DCUO, which i have played and i regret ever playing, is not a standard which to compare anything to. I've never played WoW, but from what i understand, it has no built in VC, and its really the only MMORPG you can properly compare this game to.

Easy answer impossible because of cross platform.

Being cross platform has no baring on a VC server. If you think it being cross platform makes it impossible for a VC server to exist in the game for them, then how did they make it possible for us all to play together. VC servers are no where near as demanding as the game server.

There are so many other Voice Chatting Systems out there at the moment. I wouldn't want to pull Devs off other projects to work on this since its unnecessary imo. Let them continue to focus on more new content imo.

As someone who's played an online game with and without voice chat, I can see both the benefits and the concerns that go with each aspect. I played Phantasy Star Universe for several years (don't hate) on PS2 and then on Xbox 360.

Dude, PSU was AWESOME. I still havent gotten into an online game quite like PSU. And yeah, the 360 servers were awful. People think the gil sellers here are bad?! Mind if I ask who your characters were?

But anyways, I'm glad FFXIV doesn't have built in voice chat, I'm not as expected to use it. I can if I need to, but I find it more of a hassle to deal with than just typing.
