Ignoring all the other issues, there's just no room in the PS3 client for it.1) How is mandatory chat for raids a CON? Is typing/communicating already a requirement for these things? what am I reading!? It's an mmo.... not a single player fanfest of nonsense where we party up as mutes.
2) Female Gamers - ... I'm sorry... then just don't talk.... or you know, we can keep hiding behind this justification FOREVER making woman uncomfortable to talk.... ridiculous fear mongering.
3) Bandwith costs... REALLY..... then gives those that struggle that much the option to completely avoid receiving/seinding it... meanwhile the other 99% of mmo gamers can talk.
4) WHAT? sound effect!? wut ... just..... wut....
So I have to put up with console gamers .... that more often than not don't even have a keyboard in my parties and raids.... because of these excuses?
This is a PC/Console cross over... the ONLY way to effectively get any kind of decent level of communication is through an integrated voice chat.

SE has said multiple times that they have to be careful with the PS3 due to the limited memory.
Yet the system is designed to support a keyboard. And the normal communication in an MMO is a keyboard. Playing an MMO without one is ridiculous. It's not a small group of people, such as in some FPS game.
Yes, any standard USB keyboard will work, like they did on the PS2 for FFXI.
