Materia Melding - CAP question

Hello all -

Please forgive if this is a newby question, but when you are looking to meld an item, how can you tell what is the max of each stat you are able to slot in? I dont like buying materia off the markets, and then looking to slot it and it says (stat +0) as it is already capped for that slot. Any advice appreciated, thanks!

Sadly, there's no way to tell beforehand. Some fan sites and forum threads have this information listed. In addition, the stat caps appear to based on slot and item level, so if you have a similar item you DO know the cap for, you can figure out the cap from there. Finally, HQ battlecraft items tend to be at the cap for all the stats on the item.

you can tell.. when you go to do the meld it will show how much it will gain.. or not gain for that matter... you just have to cancel the meld

That only tells you for that particular meld, which is kinda worthless if you want to pentameld something in a particular way, and ergo have to figure out your melds beforehand.
