When you become a warrior, you are still a marauder for pretty much every purpose. It's an upgrade to your existing class, not a new class.

To unlock gladiator, go to the gladiator guild in Ul'dah and talk to an NPC there. It will be a new class, so it will need new weapons (although it used the same gear, if you kept your lower level stuff.)

Unlock Gladiator by taking the quest from the Receptionist at the Gladiator's Guild in Ul'dah. That will provide you with a level 1 GLD sword and the right to equip it. When you equip a sword, you'll be a level 1 GLD. (Just switch back to your Axe when you want to return to being a level 36 MRD. Your current class is determined by the weapon you're holding, and your level is class-specific.)

As GLD, level up to at least 15. (Eventually, you'll want to take that further, up to 22, but for unlocking WAR, the requirement is 15.) Once you meet the GLD level 15 or higher requirement, switch back to MRD and go to the MRD guild to pick up your Warrior quest.

Leveling GLD to 15 should be fairly quick. You'll get another set of hunting logs specific to the new class, and if you didn't do the low-level quests in Ul'dah and Thanalan, those can level you quickly. You'll also have GLD class quests each 5 levels just like with MRD. And, since you have another class of higher level, you'll get the Armory Bonus of 50% extra XP while leveling GLD.

As a Warrior, you'll be the same level as you are as a Marauder. You'll also still have all your MRD skills and traits, and be able to equip anything a MRD can. That's because a WAR is really just a specialist type of MRD, and all XP earned as either one advances your MRD level.

If you mean as a Gladiator, however, then yes, when you unlock GLD, you'll be level 1 and will need level 1 equipment. The quest unlocking the GLD class will also provide your first level 1 sword, but you'll need armor that can be worn at level 1. (If you no longer have your starting equipment, there's a vendor in each of the three starting cities that sells copies of those race-specific starter items. In Ul'dah he's near the Delivery Moogle and that trio of dancing Mi'quote girls.)

Awesome, I played for about 45 minutes so far and I'm sitting on level 8 gladiator. So my plan is to go to 15 and go warrior it up! You guys helped a whole lot. Oh I meant to say, I haven't seen a whole lot of quests for gladiator, just one from the guild leader is all, I'm having to fight monsters to get exp, taking longer.

Yeah, you can only do any individual sidequest once (Barring some high level daily/weekly quests). So, if you did all the quests you can, you'll only be able to do the class specific quests from your guild. That said, you do have several options!

1: Hunting log: Get bonus xp for killing mobs! Finish the whole thing for an achievement and a snazzy ring to start you out on endgame!
2: Levequests: Starting from... forget if it's level 1 or 5. You get 6 allotments a day, and each camp has a different selection. Travel the three nations and do them all for achievements
3: Guildhests: Starting at level 10, you can use these for faster xp than just killing random mobs. You also get a hefty xp and gil bonus the first time you do it on any given class.
4: Challenge Log: You unlock these at level 15, but you can unlock it on your marauder (quest is in Limsa Lominsa). Just make sure you're on gladiator when you finish challenges for a hefty bunch of xp!
5: FATE. If you see a FATE up while running around, go do it. Free xp and seals!
6: Chocobro: Not actually a source of xp, but there's a quest in the South Shroud you can do at level 30 to allow your chocobo to fight alongside you. He can help kill things faster and allow you to take on challenges you couldn't normally, so feel free to have him out anytime you're doing open-world content (You can't use him in instances like dungeons and such) to help earn him xp. Also, if you focus on one path when levelling him, you will get a unique barding!
7: Dungeons: Won't help you get to 15, but for 15+ dungeons are a great source of xp.

I'm just gonna recommend getting Gladiator to 22 if you don't get tired of it. Provoke is required for some endgame stuff and is just useful in general.

Wow, thanks for the tips guys, ya I stumbled on the levee quests and it's helping it go up a lot faster. Ya if u recommend going to 22, I'll do that, wanna be as well rounded as I can be. So 7 more levels isn't too much more. Thanks.
