Question about the Magitek Vangob (Brayflox Longstop HM)

So what's the deal with a Magitek machine being used by an underground goblin organization?

Is the Vangob a former decommissioned Vangaurd unit, scavenged and revived using goblin engineering?

Could it be that the Garlean Empire is in alliance with the Illuminati, and therefor supplies them with machines?

Or did the goblins build their own machine from the ground up, using a Magitek Vangaurd as their 'inspiration'?

That'd be my bet. There's wreckage all over the place and goblins are tinkerers.

There's clear Garlean flourishes on some parts but not others, and the metal looks rusty compared to in-service Vanguards. The legs are rollout spec, but the feet have been changed to be wider and more stable. The arms are rollout spec, but the drills have been improved for drilling through solid rock, which makes sense because the Goblins don't need invade fortifications, they need to hollow out that mountain inside which they're presently building a new city. Lastly, the entire torso has been replaced, removing the automatic controls that were likely destroyed when the unit was defeated and adding a gobby-sized cockpit and exhaust.

Looks like a salvage job to me!

And judging by the goblins opportunistic and enterprising nature, salvaging and tinkering seem to be likely. I was so glad the Illuminati was given more a presence since Mutamix was previously the only representation - I am curious to know what other great discoveries they have beyond materia, mechanics, mathematics and cheese making...

Do you feel, at the end of Hard Mode, that there is some sort of goblin truce between Brayflox and the Illuminati? She seems quite happy to share her cheese secret considering that is why they invaded and destroyed her settlement in the first place!

Yeah. The comments from the Illuminati at the start and end of the third boss fight suggest that the Illuminati wants to keep the recipe secret, while Brayflox is willing to spread it. There's even a mumbled comment from the third boss's flunky that suggests the flunky didn't even know what was in the recipe, and is shocked when he finds out what the secret ingredient is.
