Gah, same usual sh*t as the other reviewers.
If my friends have chosen to play XIV is because it's under constant development and something different from the other MMOs. Also they are hardcore and casual by occasion, so XIV is the perfect game for them (because I told them with MY review =D)

I don't give a f*ck about gamesite reviewers, as the opinion is to be asked at who keeps playing the game under these circumstances (like us).

    and that's the truth.
Actually. One of their columnists came to FFXIV's defense one time, saying that it wasn't entirely a bad game but that there is a higher demand for different types of MMOs today. He said that he didn't think it was bad.

I think it's worth commenting the reason why we've waited ten months before we get a big update for FFXIV is because the staff changes. When those took place the ideas from the previous producer were scrapped. This is what Yoshida was trying to explain in those recent interviews. It takes six months for the equipment to get to the ready to be implemented stage. But once we reach the end of those six months we won't see that six month wait again because everything was started six months ago. This works for all the other content too. So after this update we'll be seeing a lot more large scale updates. The wheels are turning.

Games that you've mentioned like rift didn't get their entire infrastructure ripped out meaning their development cycle had been going long before release. Yes it's sad FFXIV is suffering this badly but that's why they're not charging.

Edit: I guess to make this post more on topic. The reason why it's low for a company to review FFXIV now is because they know the above facts. If they make FFXIV look bad right before it starts getting good people won't bother to try it when people say the new updates are great.

I'm not too sure that the ideas from the previous producer were entirely scrapped. I remember the schedule that was originally posted by the old team and a bunch of things that were on that have been implemented by the new team. I think a better way to put it is that the priority of everything has been shifted considerably.

Your totally right, because SE does not have high financial backing....or years of experience behind them. And your arguments that because Trion copied other successful mmos somehow makes my original statement invalid. Ok, that is about the same reasoning level as me getting bent at SE for copying Mana and Cure from other RPG's. Ideas come from somewhere, Trion just happened to gather them From EQ/GW/WoW.

In the end...you still haven't managed to put up an intelligent counter my original statement. 10 months is plenty of time to get something done with this game. But hey, in three days....I'll be wrong....maybe.

You are knocking the women for when it was released, but if this patch doesn't do all that much to help the game, it doesn't matter anyways. If that's the best critique of the article, then you're grasping at smoke.

It's a fair review. They even waited a long time like Squenix asked. If this game wasn't failing, it would be charging every month and that review would be incorrect. Sadly it is a failure. Consider, it's been ~10 months since release. If SE did a good job, it'd have 250k users paying 12-15 bucks a month each. They'd be making 2.5 million a month and would have made 25 million from monthly revenues by now. Instead they've made nothing but box fees (they get half of those) and had to spend 10 months at $10K per employee per month to fix this game (10K pepm was a rule of thumb for development costs a few years ago).

Also, guys, this is 10 months later.

If SE cared so much about their reputation, there would be twice as much staff poured into FFXIV to get it up to scratch by the 10 month mark so that no reviewer on earth could say "10 months later and still a mess".

But they can still say that, so SE gets what they deserve. (With all due respect).

at the end of the day, 10 months is long enough time to wait to review a game, if its not long enough, that is the fault of the company not the reviewer. If you agree with everything the article says as the game stands, then it is a perfectly accurate review.

But if you want to look on the bright side, if they add enough to the ps3 release, give it a new name and promote it as a new beginning or expansion, it will probably warrant some new reviews, but it would have to be super awesome by then, and you have to ask yourself, do you really think they will make something that makes people say wow this is awesome by then? or do you just hope they will make something that people say, this is a decent normal mmo. because if its the latter, then it wont be enough.
