Sadly, I agree. At 2.0 they might have been useful due to far lower gil in circulation and higher repair costs; by now it's utterly pointless.

Besides, Dark Matter should be reserved for much more valuable drops/mechanics. It has a very special place in the FF universe.

    1. Get rid of Grade 1-5. Only one type of Dark Matter which stacks to 999 and is sold by NPCs or can be gathered in adequate ammounts.
    2. Repairs require 1 Dark Matter for 10% durability per item. So repairing an item from 55% to 100% requires 5 Dark Matter.
    3. You can either "repair all" similar to the mender NPCs, or you can select single items and repair them.
    4. Repairs can be done no matter which class you are at the moment, as long as you have the required crafting class high enough to repair. Example: You are Whm and want to repair your whole gearset. Just use "repair all equipped items" or select the items you want to repair, click "repair" and be done.
    5. Repairs can be used in dungeons and raids.
    6. Players can "request repairs" and crafters just have to select that player and use repair. No selection of items or trading of Dark Matter required.
    7. Increase the price for NPC repairs by 20-30% for ilvl50+ equipment.

This is exactly it. They designed the system with the 2.2 repair costs in mind. They lowered the repair cost (so it no longer takes 10000 gil to repair from 50% in full 90) and this was simply looked over. If repair cost were the same as launch then this topic wouldn't even exist because people wouldn't use npc unless they had trucks of gil to waste.

It would really help if I could repair my gear as long as I have the corresponding crafter class at a high enough level.

For example, as long as I have crafting class X leveled to level Y, I can repair anything that class X can perair on level Y regardless of wich class I have equipped at the moment. Like others have mentioned, it takes ages to switch between all crafting classes to repair the gear of a single DoW/DoM. Being able to repair things regardless of the class you have equiped at the moment would help a lot.

I don't know I've gotten into the habit of self repairing all my gear since patch 2.2 and I've been watching my gil reserves soar. I don't buy the dark matter with gil though I buy them with all the company seals I got farming my two atma weapons. Collected a sizable chunk of dark matter that way and haven't had to pay for gear repairs since. Still got quite a few stacks to go.

I'm not saying I'm doing a Scrooge McDuck impression as I swim in my own gil. But I've been pretty happy with the growth I've seen with the upcoming player housing on the horizon to save up for.

In the time required to switch through DoH, search my inventory for the items I want to repair, and the actual repair process, I can craft an item and sell it for 10 times more than my repair cost.

Repairs as they are now, require too many actions. The process needs to be simplified and to make it somewhat useful, repairs should be possible in dungeons and raids too.

Considering I've been using only DM to repair my gear and never hit up the NPC menders any more, I can't say I wish to see this removed. However, I would like to see this improved. We don't need 5 levels of DM, it's really cumbersome and the interface leaves a lot to be desired. I made the effort to level all of my DoH classes to save money on repairing gear, and while it has successfully done that (I save about 60-70gil per item I repair, which adds up), I feel it fights against itself to prevent you from wanting to take the benefits. Why can't I repair in instances? Why do I have to switch between 5 classes to fully repair? Why do I have to wait until low percentages just to get max benefits to repair gear? Ultimately, why do I feel inclined to pay extra for convenience from the repair NPC when I have leveled all these DoH classes to fix my stuff?

Action & Traits > General > Repair. Interface could be better, but it's better than fishing out your armory chest.

    An idea for repair!

Make an "advanced repair" quest trait acquired by crafters at level 50.

Having the trait allows you to repair any/all piece of gear without having to swap crafting class.
You can also repair all the gear another person is wearing.

    Plus, what others said:
    • Replace all grades of Dark matter with a single generic grade.
    • Make the repair NPC repair only up to 99%. (100% is a perk for having someone repair it)

LOL cash shop! SE's way to tell their player how they appreciate them... pull the carrot and empty your pockets $$$
And to those who support it: you are kicking yourselves. -- We just need to sit back and laugh at people with cash shop items.
    (Marvelous economics IQ test!)

I'm sorry, but all of you asking for "complicated" repair system - I seriously don't want to log in to make a strategy of how to repair my stuff, it should be the shortest most effecient way possible, even the way repairs are right now is annoying where to repair all equipment we have to scroll through each tab of our armoury...

People that log in want to kill things... Not spend time looking for people to repair their items so they can kill things ( > . >

It had a place in 1.0 because 100% means you can sell it on market boards, so only the people who wanted to SELL their equipment had to use players - which is completly cool. But just to run content? god no... lol

And on ARR can't sell equipment once used so player repairs have no place here unless that's changed

Even with one button player repair - I wouldn't repair my items simply because I don't want to carry more items than I already do (dark matters) as it's not worth it. (and that's coming from an almost all DoH capped)

I agree that repair should be removed altogether... If SE want gil sink punishment for deaths they can add exp you can buy back from an NPC... capped? then they can add tome loss you can buy back from an NPC. can come up with anything that doesn't hold the party back in case you forget to repair like it is now...

TL,DR: Repair "system" had a place in 1.0. not in 2.0.

Functionally, gear going up to 99% from the repair NPC is pointless. I'm to understand in 1.0 that it was the requirement to resell gear, but in 2.0 everything is bound to you upon first use anyway - so it's completely irrelevant that you can't repair that 1%.

I heartily support the 'one click repair' improvement though. If they're going to continue enabling this as A Thing, then it should be done in a way that is just as convenient to access as using any Mender NPC.
