It's the nature of the beast. As an online game, every player is going to have access to the internet, so it doesn't matter what the design is, many people are going to cheat and look up strategies to make their life easier. If you don't make the fights interesting enough such that people might need to watch a video on it, then they're going to faceroll the content, get bored and quit.

If you want to explore new content without watching videos, the best thing to do is obviously find like minded people you can play with. If you can't find enough, or prefer a more casual and less organized experience, the best time to do this is right after a new patch drops. At that point, nobody knows the new content so take advantage of it while everyone is in the same boat.

I never feel like I really feel all that accomplished since its just me following directions from a video.
I see it as cheating, in other games there's no way i'd look at a how-to unless I failed it many many times over.
But oh well, other people seem to like it.
Agree wholeheartedly. I always feel like I have a better understanding for the fight when I am allowed to tackle it on my own, rather than memorising someone else's tips to beating it.

Strange custom indeed. I think the last thing I looked up online was all the feather locations for one of the Assassins Creed games, cause I was missing 2 of them :/ I felt like I was cheating then too!

If you're the only one in the group who wants to learn by wiping, then you might want to consider making a party finder group. I don't think 1 person > 7 people. On the other hand, if you're in the majority, the minority in the group are free to leave and make their own group too.

Sure it's selfish to want to be the only person who has not studied the fight beforehand, but the sad part happened the moment people started thinking of this as the norm.

Do any of you enjoy clearing any content knowing that you did absolutely nothing else than follow instructions like a mindless robot? Then some people even brag about it... "I was the first one to understand this YouTube video!"

The only people who truly experienced gaming like you are supposed to are the people who made that YouTube video, and I wish they didn't make it.

This. As MMOs have matured, fights have had to become more and more complicated. No longer are bosses simple gear checks, instead there are many complicated, sometimes obscure, mechanics that have to be dealt with. Many players, especially ones who have already completed the fight before, do not want to wait for people new to the fight to learn said mechanics.

Your best option is to find a group that agrees with your point of view, and that is willing to spend time wiping and learning the fight instead of looking up a strategy.

Yeah. I'm an iL92 PAL. If I were going to grade myself, I'd give me a B for tanking... I'm better than many, but not among the best. And the only reason my gear is so good is that I found good friends with whom to run content. I still do duty roulette for low level dungeons every day, but I never do the hard or extreme ones with PUGs. In fact, if not for my friends, I doubt I'd ever do the hard or extreme ones.

This would be great if you had a static and were all going through it together and decided thats how you wanted to experience it. But if you show up to Titan Extreme via the Duty finder without any idea whats going on, thats pretty much an hour wasted of everyones time.

By all means, experience the content the way you would like.
But if you're showing up with randoms for an hour shot, WTFV.

how is reading a guide on reddit any different than watching a video guide on youtube? lol

an on that note, i dont really get why so many people think that looking at guides will downgrade your gaming experience. strategy guides have existed for as long as video games. an for this game, alot of fights require you to have an idea of whats going on, or you are going to waste 7 other peoples time, especially if you are tnk, because it is your job to lead the way an know whats going on. If you want your special gaming experience with no spoilers then make your own group for your own specific means, the answer to your problem is already in the game. there is another way too, if you want to learn a dungeon fresh, do it when it first comes out like the rest of us lol, then after a few weeks u will be blastin through it an be mad when people wipe u too lol but ya, if you que up for a primal fight or a coil run an you are the tnk, an you say, "hi im new, i have no idea whats goin on, tell me what to do" everyone else in the pt knows u just signed their death warrants, so ya some people tend to get a lil butt-hurt when that happens

I am complying with the norm, don't worry. I just don't want to.
