    How to advise hostile tanks?

Having leveled and geared up a tank first I haven't had to deal with this much since switching mmos. I've run into a few strings of tanks the last few days that will not take advice even if it's extremely basic and sugar coated.

Things like face mobs away from the group, move only when you need to so you know where the danger zone will be and having large mobs half in walls reduces dps.

No matter how I try to approach it the majority refuse to listen. The most common response so far is that it's my problem and to leave if I don't like it. Healers and caster dps often jump in with a similar response even though it's making thier job slightly more difficult as well. It's rare but, occasionally some one will try to explain as well.

It's making the 40-50 leveling range very aggravating and I have no idea how to talk to people who feel any advice is an insult.

Problem now is most tanks don't care. A lot are making just for fast queue times, don't know how to tank and don't want to learn. Just care about themselves. If there is an aoe cone I dodge but run right back to where I was standing before if possible so monks and dragons don't have to move as much. When I play on my healer I'm very annoyed seeing other tanks and there method of play. Sure lots do fine, but a lot I can tell don't care or know what they are doing

You know, I often come across people complaining that so-and-so person was mean and hostile in their response, but the person bringing it up never seems to mention that it could have been how they directed their comment. In the day and age of the internet, punctuation is more important that ever to solidify your intent. That being said, I had a guy the other day that his "suggestion" came off snarky, but if it had a comma in the proper spot and delivered more as a question then it would have avoided him coming off sounding like an asshole.

    Let them die.

    Then it's their problem.

I tell them to suck it the fuck up butter cup and learn to play so people don't have to give them advice. THE HORROR! THEY MUST LEARN!

Ya can't. This ain't just a problem with tanks, mind. Like ya said, the others will tell ya to sod off as well, even if the advice ain't aimed at them.

Part've bein' a good anythin' in trainin' is bein' able to take criticism, and Tanks especially're supposed to have thick skin. Unfortunately, many Tanks never learned their letters, so when they should be indomitable, they instead think they're infallible.

To be fair, nobody likes bein' told how to do their job. Some people need to be told, but they won't like it. And do ya wanna add stress to a game? Probly not. If the person yer "advisin'" ain't takin' to it, all ya can do is leave it alone, lest ya create even more friction for the group. They'll just continue to be shite, and may even begin actively tryin' to be shite to spite ya. Unwarranted self esteem an' pettiness go hand n' hand.

Well said. Helps to remember that the party's goal is the completion of a dungeon/trial in their enjoyment of the game, not who's better.

I personally see parties I get grouped with through DF that aren't performing as opportunities for me to further improve. That way, even if the goal of say defeating Titan Ex fails for the 1358934568458967420^3894364597364958 time, I can still maybe have gotten something out of it like the delay timing in between titan's moves.

Agreed. Plus, I've learned some people need to be taken to HKU (Hard Knock University). I'll admit I'm not the best tank out there, but some people won't listen. I'll let the angry internet crowd do their thing while I just laugh remembering what kind of dumb mistakes I've made while learning to tank.

(also, it helps when you're the healer and you "forget" where your heals button is in those cases)

As someone that mains PLD, this kind of attitude is really disappointing to me when I see it. I take pride in my ability as a tank. When I dodge an AoE, I make sure to step back in front of the mob. I silence/stun whatever AoE's I can. Hell, if I see a melee dps get slammed I'll Cover them. Generally, I just try to do everything in my power to make things easier for the party, because of this exact sentiment:

Seriously, queueing for a dungeon should be fun. It shouldn't be a completely miserable experience. It should be four people working together toward the common goal of clearing the instance, not three people having to deal with one complete asshole that just wants fast queue times and can't be bothered to learn to play.
