Ul'dah or Limsa Lominsa - most dangerous city state?

Both Ul'dah and Limsa Lominsa are portrayed as being fairly crime-ridden places compared to Gridania.

But which one is the most dangerous to live in? By dangerous I mean how likely you are to get stabbed/mugged on the streets, robbed, etc. Pretty much, you don't live there unless you know how to use your fists.

The way I see it, Limsa is a city of pirates, but Ul'dah has the Syndicate's corrupting influence, and the Brass Blades are very much a case of the fox guarding the henhouse...

Well, Limsa has a pirate problem as well as an underground organization of thieves/scoundrels (Maybe even assassins). Ul'dah seems to have more political corruption than anything, with the Brass Blades being just as corrupt. I mean, even in the opening cutscene if you start in Ul'dah has your caravan getting stopped and evidence being planted by the Blades in an effort to extort you of money. With that said, I think Ul'dah is more dangerous, especially since the people who are supposed to protect the people are often the ones harassing them. But what's life without a little adventure eh?

Ul'dah definitely. Limsa might be a pirate city, but the Knights of the Barracuda (the Yellowjackets) and the Maelstrom ensure reasonable order (in factm the only real place you're likely to mugged or stabbed in Limsa is the Missing Member pub, and even that's next door to Maelstrom Command HQ, so they know to behave). Not to mention their head of state is someone you don't want to cross (hence the various pirate groups are kept in line mostly).

Ul'dah on the other hand, is descending into becoming a wretched hive. Gil rules everything there. The Brass Blades are little more than a group of thieves and thugs with a badge, they're owned by a corrupt merchant (Lord Lorilito), the corporate oligarchical government barely is holding itself together, the official head of state is little more than a figurehead with little actual power, and on top of that they're hassled by a beast race whose Primal is renowned for preferring to temper anyone he can get his claws on. Little wonder criminal gangs like the Alacran can burst into the Adventurer's Guild in broad daylight and attempt to assassinate people with impunity.

If I remember correctly, the Ul'dahn merchant you fight in the Main Scenario who is bullying a young woman was revealed to have been tempered by Ifrit.

AFAIK though, scenes like that are actually very common in Ul'dah.

Close, he was tempered at the same time you weren't.

Yeah, that merchant originally helped the Amalj'aa because of power, but ended up being tempered just like the rest of kidnapped soldiers.
It was so satisfying to learn afterwards that he got executed off-screen because of his condition (too bad about the other innocent soldiers, though...).

Ul'dah is definitely. People may not realize it but the majority of Ul'dah citizens are poor and then you add in poor Ala Mhigan refugees and things become a melting pot of desperate people who will do anything to feed themselves or family. In 1.0 it was explained that Camp Blackbrush was the place where the poor Ul'dahns lived as they didn't want poor people inside the Ul'dah walls, people were literally expelled from the city for being poor or if they committed a crime. I don't believe the game has explained it this way in 2.0 but I would assume Ul'dah hasn't changed and has potentially became worse with the Alacran and Brass Blades being more corrupt.

I'm Lominsan to the core, but I'm gonna have to give this one to Ul'dah, as well. Limsa's more likely to give you an axe to the face than a dagger in the back, and it's more likely going to come from you being in the wrong part of town with the wrong attitude than just looking you're like easy prey for profit. Ul'dah is only as safe as it's profitable to keep it whereas Lominsa has always maintained a predictable status quo between policing and piracy.

I think Grid has it's own crime problems. They have a huge issue with poaching. There are loads of poacher camps in the Shroud. The only thing preventing UD from falling into complete anarchy is Raubahn. He's the only syndicate member loyal to the Sultana and as far as I know, is not corrupt. The Syndicate fears the power of the Flamers, so that's the only thing that keeps UD from falling into complete chaos.

I HOPEHOPEHOPEHOPE that if there is an UD patch, the story involves fighting the Syndicate and reinstating full authority to the Sultana =D

Plus, Lolorito is an idiot. Admitting the refugees into UD, both Ala Mhigans and the Domans, would have boosted the workforce by A LOT! That would improve the profits of the various guilds and stuff. But typical capitalism, Lolorito wants money RIGHT NAO instead of making a killing over a long term.

Ul'dah is more dangerous if you're poor.

Limsa is more dangerous if you're dumb.

Still, I'd rather live in Limsa than in Ul'dah. You can work on a farm or on a boat and as long as you keep to yourself and don't go looking for trouble, you'll be OK.
