roulette in progress broken?

i dont understand those who say they cannot enter a friend's needed run as a in-progress roulette.
if your friends say they need an extra person for X run, why would you not just Q up for that X run?
i think they did this on purpose months ago so you couldn't fish and get the bonus for popping in at the last boss
and im fine with that. however, and mind you i'm not complaining, there seems to be a little trick with in-progress that probably isn't 'working as intended'.

May have just been that the leader in the group selected not to be in the queue. When someone leaves, the party leader gets a pop up asking if they want to look for replacements.

This sounds correct. Always have your friend verify that their DF is actually trying to find new members. If it's not searching for new members, you definitely won't be able to show up and help. I think the dungeons also have some kind of time/progress combination at which they won't search for new members. And some Duties I believe have notations in their description "Cannot Add Members" , and, I think a fully premade party is also ineligible for finding new members. I could be wrong on some of this though.

no, I don't think that is the case because when I queued specifically for praetorium it popped immediately with an in progress group. I was only given a fresh group with the roulette queue.

I often have trouble joining specific party in progress too. It'll match me in an abandoned dungeon a lot.
One time I tried to join a friend mid dungeon and when I checked the in progress, it was still queue'ing me normally with a wait time and all until I checked all the language options and tried again. Then I found my friend's run.

If joining in progress never works for roulette, then the checkbox should be disabled like it is for some other DF queues.
