Convoluted Cooking Conundrum

Today, at LV 50, I took the leisure to look up how exactly food in FFXIV works for the first time. And I was shocked. Luckily, just as crafting will get an overhaul in one of the upcoming updates, so will, hopefully, food.

To clarify: Right now, food effects are less an attribute of the food itself, but an intricate formula taking into consideration level, physical and elemental stats, and finally the food's "base effect" itself (see here: https://docs.google.com/viewer?a=v&pid=explorer&chrome=true&srcid=1zK9e_wsHTMPMhQGYXA5qDkCEEXsb749VTTcMvPSEy9N6pMVT5mx3zTIIFS43&hl=en&authkey=CNDhlbAB).

Which basically means that, to get some decent effect out of your food, you have to micromanage your physical point distribution every time you eat a salad. Or, the other way round, change your diet whenever a piece of equipment gives you "lightning +5".

Luckily, physical levels will finally, finally be a thing of the past with 1.19 (?). Yet another convoluted relic of the past ripe for the garbage pile!!

Yea food right now is a convoluted ball of mess that's slated to get streamlined and made so you don't have to have a masters degree in theoretical mathematics to understand whats going on. I think its going to happen around or after they get the stat algorithms straightened out.

Its stupid that it takes having the right stats to get 'the full benefit' of food anyways. Food should just give its max benefit, increased by quality, regardless of your attributes.

Food system was the worst thing they designed. Still to this day no one really knows if it has an effect beyond the foods that visibly increase certain stats. Also, the fact that you had to go out of your way to optimise your diet was such a strain on your point alottment and patience.

Hopefully with the update cooking will be given the attention it needs.

Well I already got my doctorate in network theory just to get the patch downloading, so I'm kind of spent on tertiary fees.

Well I already got my doctorate in network theory just to get the patch downloading, so I'm kind of spent on tertiary fees.

Nope, never played XI. Just haven't seen more than the beginnings of breaking out the stats and such for XIV (since stats do almost nothing atm) versus WoW where pretty much everything is broken out.

Hell, I did more math playing FFT than I have so far in XIV. . .
