I wonder how important it might be to go after the fanbase who left? I mean, what about some sweet extras for those who get the PS3 version, or an FFXI event with a FFXIV re-release theme? Maybe like some tie-in what-if storyline? I'm not entirely sure it'd be worth SE's effort to market to XI players, as I imagine there's probably a lot of overlap already, but maybe enough have gone back this would entice them to give it another go?

Maybe throws in free trials with other Square Enix releases? In this day and age, it wouldn't be hard to have the PS3 version downloadable as well, maybe throw a free month trial (assuming they're charging by then) with releases like XIII Versus or -2?

I also liked Rift's comic book prequel tie-in, and their "We're not in Azeroth!" anymore tagline, but I don't know if that's a direction SE would like to go.
Well I'm sure most players who went back to FFXI are probably still keeping up with updates and such, or have friends informing them of when they should come back, stuff like that. What I'm worried about is that audience SE has been trying to capture since before release. The non-XI players are few and far between. Every single person in my LS came from FFXI and played for over 4-5+ years. While that's good and all, I'd like to see new blood. If they want the Ps3 version to be the saving grace, they need to get themselves out there PAST their own product (FFXI) because people in FFXI already know about it.

Not to say your idea wasn't good or anything, I'm just saying people probably already know.
