They could ship the PS3 version disguised in the sleeve of a new Call of Duty game

from the current state, it makes sense that they didn't do any commercial

more advertising = more people who going to play, quit and criticize the game

that's why they'll start advertising when they really think the game is ready
This is stupid, it's not like they didnt advertise because they new it was crap. The devs were blind and released it because they actually thought it was ready.
That said, yes, when the ps3 version is ready, they need to do everything in their power to make this game known. They need the critics who matter (ign, gamespot, g4) to acknowledge that it's a better game than it was. They need ads.

I personally cant wait for the ps3 version. I'm sick of having to take turns with my wife to play. we want to be able to play together.

This made me chuckle, the thought that the devs didn't argue until they were blue in the face to NOT release it I find more likely. SE money grabbing big wigs I would gamble on.

Speaking as a dev myself (not on the same scale of course) I can say you are always under pressure to get what you are doing out the door yesterday, sometimes regardless of glaring bugs and issues; the voice of the dev is seldom heard in the face of your bosses bosses boss telling you it has to go now regardless of the state it is in. The decision can come so far up the management chain that all they have seen is "Well it looks like it works, what's the problem?"

    Not flaming/trolling, just saying I disagree =)

There was actually quite a bit of advertising very early on at launch, but they very quickly scrapped it when the first reviews bombed.
I wouldn't be too concerned about it, if there's one thing SE knows, it's how to bank on their fanbase.

    I agree with OP.

These are very, very standard ways of doing things and getting your name out there, and for some reason Square didn't seem to follow through on it the first time around. Even the smallest Indie devs do interviews to hype their games and advertise on related sides, and official Facebooks are easy, free advertising that your fanbase does for you. Common sense stuff that just about everyone does, because it's easy marketing.

I guess we'll see, if or when the PS3 version drops.

Loool, 6 months you say? Only if they want to repeat September 2010.

The PC version sold well even without advertising. However, they really need to up the stakes for the PS3 release (give a free copy with versus XIII!)

Too bad their PR team is incompetent. their latest v. XIII info was a disaster. "We'll show the famitsu editors three in-game pics but we won't release them to the public!"

Seriously, who the hell are they selling their games to? The famitsu editors or the fans? Goddamn.

Did I mention the Closed Mega Theater in 2009? Trailers shown to the media, and we get to see a crappy cam recorded tidbits at best.

Thank God XIV PR is much less annoying, but still in a sad state compared to everything else.

My bad, I was actually thinking 6 months from the end of summer (around March 2012). Considering the fact that they stated that they are programming everything to the ps3 version alongside the PC version, hopefully by March we'll at least be close to a release date. I hope by then, 6 months after the battle changes, some real content has been added to the game.

Insulting people in the counter argument isn't going to change their minds. It will make them stick harder to their opinion regardless of whether or not it's right, and think less of your opinion simply because you insulted them. In essence, if you want to try and change someone's mind, come up with a well thought-out response and don't be a dick.

I think it solely depends on what their ETA for the server, engine and MAP layout fixes are. Once those are out of the door, the rest of the features can be implemented relatively easily and fast (within three months).

I think it's safe to say that the battle system and the overall game design will be close to finished by the end of the year. But I wouldn't be too optimistic to see the three largest fixes to be out of the door during this year. How long does it take to make an expansion? A year, a year and a half? That's the timeframe we're probably looking at.

It's not a bad thing though. We'll get lots of content during the waiting period, within the limitations of the current engine and server however, but still.

Only 2 constructive posts? The question wasn't saying or implying it was or wasn't ready for advertising, just what they should do when it gets to be that time and how to help promote the games... Way to get off topic most of you just so you can have a chance to complain more LoL Here have a tissue xD

Anyways They need to invest HEAVILY into advertising including even outsourcing to a ton of different ad agencies all over since FF is a worldwide game/server type game like 11. Leenk and Raistlin have the right idea's haha Need to add some celebrity/humor to their ads as well as get critics to appreciate the changes for way better. (Even though most critics are douches when it comes to non fps games xD and are rarely analytical enough for their position) In some of these ads they NEED to also acknowledge not only all the changes and the new team that took over but their failures before as well as even the ability to laugh at themselves. Need to expand outside a normal serious SE advertising, rather than the typical cg/partial gameplay commercial and call it quits, they HAVE to add more flavor to it when the time comes!
