It makes a ton of difference having a keyboard with the ps4. Idk how people communicate without one
I use a controller, a keyboard, and a mouse when playing.
They all work extremely well together.
You can just hit alt or ctrl before tapping a short cut key, and keep the direct chat setup as well, it's what I do, works fairly well.
I read you don't hit enter, you just type firs then press enter to send your message. I just picked up a Logitech last night but have yet to log on since my vacation. I'll bbl to let you know.
My brand is Lenova... I can't type with it. I'm debating going to best buy here in a bit and getting something else.
I'm currently using a Logitech K400 with my PS4. It's nice and small and does well enough for chat.

Some of the keys started acting funky so I'm thinking of trying out the MS All-in-One Media Keyboard that came out. Also the right shift key on the Logitech is a little small and annoying sometimes.

Either way, if all you want to use it for is chatting and simple mouse functions, they both should do the trick.
I just went to best buy, got a new Logitech wireless board and mouse for $25 total, plugged em in and worked no problem. Guess it was my cheap Lenova board my ps4 hated. So much better now.
