will it let you easily just type to chat while using the controller normally? So I would just use the keyboard for talking and controller for anything else?

making friends and chatting is a big part of MMO's for me but talking using the controller is torturous . People will get bored and leave before I manage to say anything.

is it seamless using both together?

...though you might consider using the keyboard for shortcuts as well. J = journal, U = duty finder, C = character screen, etc. Much faster than going through the menus.

Reason I don't want use the controller for anything but chatting is the way I sit in my living room , well I don't sit I lay down comfy and lazy while playing PS4 ( I cant sit on a sofa due to a bad back). I would have got in on my PC if I wanted to use K/M for everything.

I only got it on PS4 as there are no good games on PS4 and I felt obliged to use it after paying £350 and it was just gathering dust.

Under Character Settings, there's an option called Direct Chat.

Keep that checkbox checked if you want to control nearly everything with the controller and just use the keyboard for chatting. With it selected, whenever you start typing it will automatically move to the chat window and interpret keystrokes as chat text.

If, as Amnesia suggested, you want to use keyboard shortcuts, then turn off Direct Chat. With that checkbox unchecked, you have to explicitly move focus to the chat box before keystrokes will be interpreted as chat text. Otherwise, keystrokes are interpreted according to shortcut settings to perform actions or open menus, etc.

At least on PS3, Direct Chat is selected by default. I'm not certain if the default is the same on PS4, but they do both have the option.

You can just press the Enter key to move focus to the chat box...

I use a Logitech wireless blue-tooth keyboard and it works great. Just put in the code from the KB and your allset.

I have a generic USB keyboard which is recognized by my ps4, but when I log in to ff14 and hit enter to type, nothing happens! Should I get a new keyboard? It's just like a $10 best buy cheap one. Or is there some button I need to click to activate it.
