    sargantanas brand new

Hello all.just starting out and to say I'm lost and confused doesn't begin to cover my situation. I'm not new to games or mmos, however I haven't made any new classes or played any new games recently trying to avoid the "learning phase"that comes with it. I am using the ps4 and have a good understanding of its format. I know how to grind and boss hunting has always been my bread and butter but I just constantly find myself roaming around looking for some direction, I fear I'll lose interest in playing before I get the full experience.so anyone willing to guide me thoroughly I'm open to making any class. I naturally choose tanks and archers, and would prefer not to be a spell caster.but am happy to fill voids. I'll check back here religiously for the next few days so your comments will not be left in vain

Probably the easiest thing to do right off the bat is to follow the storyline quests and do whatever sidequests you see as you go. SE has designed it so you level at the proper pace doing those things together. The nice part about this game is you're never locked to one class. You can try them all on one character, and it often helps to have many classes leveled for cross class skills.

I'm in Sargatanas too, so shoot me a tell if you ever have questions. Name's Llen Coram.

Keep an eye on your list of quests on the right of the screen. You can also select a quest and open it for a Map option which will show you where to go.
To find new quests, open your map and look for "!" marks. There is also a list of recommended quests for the area you are in. By default that only shows when you first log in but you can set it to show whenever you transition between areas.
The quests with the flame around the "!" are the storyline quests. Work on those as they become available.

Otherwise are there specific areas/things you have questions about?

Being my first time on an mmo, I went for tank without really knowing what i was was doing, but must say, its been a blast so far. Once the logs start to open up there is plenty to do, although I've made a point of leveling one crafter (blacksmith), a main class and subclass to unlock my job and get some cross class skills, then tried to get all other jobs to at least level 5, with the view of having them share gear until I start coming back to them later. Done a lot of side missions but left a few to keep other jobs becoming too much of a grind, but at the moment there is always something to do to suit my mood, whether it be hunting, crafting, leves or questing. Can't wait for more mmo's on the ps4 as after playing dcuo for a couple of weeks, I didn't think they were gonna be my cup of tea.

I'm just looking for a general direction.the flaming quest markers help. I just don't want to grind out my levels and find out I need to do a lvl 5 quest line.should I be saving anything or looking for anything that sort of thing.

As long as you are doing the story and class quests, you are good up to like 20. After Ifrit, join a grand company and work on your chocobo. Once you hit level 30, go to Camp Tranquil in South Shroud and learn to use your chocobo in battle.
At the end of the storyline you will need to do some guildhests, so you might as well start doing those at level 10 when they unlock. I think you pick them up in Bentbranch after you start doing levequests there.
As you approach level 30 you should think about swapping classes to get ready to pick up Bard (assuming that is what you want to do). You need Archer at 30 and (I think) Pugilist at 15 to start on Bard.

you really can't do anything the game doesn't want you to do, as long as you're progressing the storyline a bit and gaining some exp. almost everything is included in the storyline, sidequests are totally up to you..

You have to level at the very least two if you want to unlock your main class' job. It's always main class at 30, secondary at 15 for a job. However, leveling a couple of other classes to at least 15 never hurt anyone and can be done fairly quickly.

Picking up other classes gives you cross-class skills which can be very useful. For example, pugilist has a self heal which you can use as an archer.
As Llen mentioned you also need your secondary class at 15 to qualify for a job. The jobs are generally considered improvements over the base classes and you will get funny looks if you are much past 30 and haven't picked up the job yet. Archer/bard is the one exception if you are soloing - bards really shine in parties but not so much solo.
