    This needs to change!

The materia, melding and RNG systems in this game are broken! This needs to change! I am on the verge of snapping, and this example shown is not an extreme case... THIS IS THE NORM! Why is it when overmelding gear is REQUIRED to reach the new content for DoL & DoH, is the system still so ridiculously unforgiving? Materia prices are skyrocketing because of this and the funny thing is, 99% of the materia sold on the ends up being lost because of this. Why does this need to be such a tremendous time/gil sink?!

The success rates are far too low for such little gain, paired with a broken RNG system that favors failure. Tera used a system where with each failure, your chance of success was slightly higher, why can't SE adopt something like this? Why do the success rates HAVE to be so low?!

SE needs to address this soon or i'm gone! i've had it with this system!

    20 fails at 14%....

I really don't see the issue with that.

    It is 14%.

    1. The problem is that the success rate is ONLY 14% for a grade 1 Materia, if you have time to go spiritbond 20 pieces of materia only to loose them all for NOTHING, then by all means stay satisfied with the current system.

    2. If I were to have succeeded in one of the 20, then that would put the actual success rate at 5%, not 14%. And this amount of failure is NORMAL, imagine trying to do this for every piece of equipement, this is for only 1 RING! being expected to loose 20 pieces of materia per socket per item is stupid and a complete waste.

The fact that you find this acceptable, tells me you have not done much endgame crafting/harvesting. The RNG system is so broken that once you get below 10% success rate, it might as well be 1%

It's 14% for that one attempt, not some kind of average. 14% is a very low chance. I have quad/penta melded quite a bit of gear, and while it is punishing failing that much, there's also those times when I went from 4 to 5 melds without any failures.

If you were to do this over like 1000 melds you'd see it'd average out.

I understand how it works, yes random is random is random. I was making a point, when I more commonly see success rates far below what the game is telling me, how does that make me feel as the player? Right now overmelding is the ONLY way to harvest the new materials and the ONLY way to have success in crafting to master recipes. So why does it need to be this way? why does it have to be such low success rates.

Being like this the only way to achieve it is with either excessive amounts of time, to spiritbond and HOPE you get the materia you need, and even then HOPE you meld succeeds. OR spending rediculous amounts of money buying up all the materia to beat the low success rate, which is whats driving up materia costs more every day. It's asking far to much from players, it's not fun nor is it challenging, it's just dumb.

Math is power! But in all seriousness, orophin is right. It means there is a 14% chance each time you do it, not you will absolutely succees 14 times for every 100 attempts. Think about it as rolling a 100 sided die each time and you only can succeed if your roll is 87 or above.

Ok for the last time, yes we understand how the percentages work. That's not what I'm getting at. There needs to be a fundamental change system here, the game shouldn't be telling players "if you want to socket that one materia, you better come with 15 because 14 are likely going to fail" Like I said, Tera had a system where with each failure the success rate increased by a small amount, and when you succeed it reset to the default rate. It worked well and wasn't game breaking, it gave players incentive to keep trying rather than just give up.

I say just do away with materia entirely. It's not fair that SE has decided to remove the need for disciples of war to meld gear to succeed at end-game, but the only way to get to the crafting or gathering "end-game" it is mandatory to overmeld gear. I'd like to see some other form of progression for crafters, and hopefully not the mindless grind that was required for artisan tools and glasses.

ive seen 30 tries for 34% so i dont see what your problem is. If you have that big of a problem with percentages i suggest you read a basic math book or something. Basically what you are saying is i bought 5000 lottery tickets so i MUST win whether you think so or not. Percentage actions are COMPLETELY BASED ON CHANCE, nothing more nothing less. ive also gotten 1 shot overmelds on all, which was a big fck yea! XD

really getting sick of people posting these without even taking a second to think about how silly they sound.
