The bland dialogue box does bother me, but I think in a much different way than it does you. I agree though I'd very much like to be able to move and re-size it!
On top of that though, I'd love if they put in some classic JRPG flair and threw a little facial representation next to the box to show who is talking. Seems kinda silly, and I am sure there is little demand for such a feature lol, but I would actually be much more excited to read all the NPC dialogues this way![]()

I honestly would prefer it in a popup window that can be resized and moved.
Furthermore, I'd also prefer not to be "locked on" the NPC that I am speaking to. I'd like to move around the NPC and if I get out of range the dialogue box just goes away. I find that more frustrating than the current box itself. Then of course when you are done with the conversation, there is this 1-2 second period where you cant move or open any menus/etc. That to me is much more pressing than designing a new box.

Also for cutscene's They should choose already, Box pop up or chatbox not both at same time. Makes cutscene's feel less cinematic, they feel too cluttered atm! Best option is Kahlus' imo, worked great for normal npc interaction, cutscenes, and or talking at same time.
