I agree with the sentiments of the OP and the others (who also agree with said sentiment).
I remember my first runs, thru DF, skipping the CS, but still getting left behind, and lost! (sometimes I didn't skip immediately, and watched a few seconds!)

Now, if there is someone in a CS in such runs I stand with them until they are done. I am a healer, so more often than not, in four man content, if the tank pulls, they wipe and have to start over, and CS peep gets their scene. In 8 man, its less so - a lot of fights can be done with one healer. But, in principle I will stay on the other side with the watcher.
Its only fair, I think. I've been lucky and for the most part had patient people with me on my first escapades in dungies (if I happen not to run it with my FC/LS).....except that time in Prae.....when I got lost....and cried my kitty eyes out.....although, they didnt kick me, one came running all the way back to find me, and guide me forth.

So one person got kicked because they were ruining the run for the majority of the rest of the party? Sounds like the kick feature is working as intended to me.

You said its been brought up a billion times, what do you want? 1-2 incidents a week compared to hundreds? Report abuse of the vote kick and leave it the way it is, going back to before vote kick is not an option, it saves so much more headache than it creates.

Yeah, I'm sure that one new person in a party of seven vets in Praetorium was really screwing things up.

Do you usually think before you speak?

Unfortunately, the issue goes beyond vote kicking players from watching Cutscenes. A lot of players are hellbent on getting the dungeon cleared as fast as possible, because they are farming tomes and don’t want to stay in a dungeon longer than necessary (which is understandable).

I was in a CM the other day where a player said at the beginning that he was new to the Dungeon. I’m always willing to help out my fellow adventurers, so i told him that he should not worry and that i’ll give tips along the way. But, things turned out quite different. Most of the people in the group plowed through the dungeon, like it was a speed run. By the time i would try and explain something (or give some tips), the tank would pull the next mob/boss.

There was no time to explain anything. The poor fellow was confused as hell and the only thing i do was say “Follow me” and “Wait here”.

When we were about to start the 2nd battle with Livia, i told the new player to wait after the battle. So, after the dungeon was cleared, i started explaining key situations in the the Dungeon within the 5 minutes before being “kicked out of the instance”. He also had a few questions on how he should play his class (summoner) in dungeons like these, so i gave him tips like using Bane, Fester, keeping Dots up, use pet abilities like Rouse, etc.

Just before the timer ran out, he told me that he was very happy that i stuck around and explain some things for him and that he learned a lot from it.

But, that is not really the issue. The issue is that a lot of players don’t have any patience / tolerance for people who are less experienced in the content they are playing, or people who make mistakes.

It doesn’t really matter what SE does, because every solution they try to implement will serve as a double edged sword. It is meant to give players an environment in which they can enjoy themselves, but those same solutions can also be abused by others. For instance the Vote Kick option.

The only reason we had a Vote Kick option, was (for instance) because of people who would AFK at the beginning of the Dungeon run for easy Tomes. But, now that we have the Vote Kick option, it will be used by people who feel that the targeted person does not meet their “standards”, even though the person is doing nothing wrong.

If they are the only one who thinks that the Dungeon is going nowhere, then they’d do things like suggesting that someone else leaves the dungeon or spam Vote Abandon (to circumvent the 30 minute Lockout). Some people go through great lengths to mess up the remainder of the dungeon for everyone…

It’s not really the means presented to us, but how people use them.

Exactly how was they ruining the run for the rest of the party? They was kicked for being afk but in fact they where watching story cutscenes in the dungeon. Last I checked watching cutscenes isn't against tos and a built-in mechanic.

I agree fully with your post, OP. I had people get mad at my friend during the Ultima fight because he was watching cutscenes and missed the last two battles (I think it was two). That's not his fault. They are the ones that started it. I didn't even know there was something after van Baelsar and Ultima initial fights. I thought you beat Ultima the first time and that was it. Why? Because the first time I did it way back in September of last year, I watched the cutscenes. He came out of the cutscene wondering why people were bitching. I told him there was a fight and that I didn't even know until the fight started because apparently, the same thing happened my first time--People went ahead and started the battle without me.

I never urge someone to skip cutscenes. In fact, if someone tries to get me or anyone else to skip them, I tell them this:

I paid for the game, just like you. I paid for my subscription with my money. If I want to watch the cutscenes, then I'll watch them. It's my right as a paying customer. I don't tell you how to play, don't tell me.

Meh. Anytime you see a story like this you have to wonder if its the full truth or not. Maybe it is but what would be the point of kicking someone near the end for no reason other than watching cutscenes if they didnt kick that person earlier. Ive had this in roulette where people intentionally stay in the cutscenes to hide the fact they are really AFK. There are several cutscenes where you have to click through the dialogue otherwise you can stay in the cutscene forever. Or saying they want to watch the cutscenes knowing they will get left behind and can afk for easy tomes.

cutscene's in instances are generally a bad idea to begin with, without it we would never have this issue.
