Can anyone explain me why does high level blacksmith ask for a meld cost when i have all the required equipment to get a meld done. I mean i just purchased 275k worth of materia and a weapon and still i can't find anyone to meld without charging me? Or is it just someone trying to get some cash outta me?

PS: I do have the matter grade 5 (even tho a grade 3 would work for this meld). So maybe i thought matter was expensive, but i even provide everything in order to get this done... *sigh*

He's asking for money for it due to the time he spent levelling up the class, maybe he's asking for more than you're willing to pay, but he's fully within his rights to ask you to pay.

As far as the melds themselves go, make sure the carbonized matter is the same grade as the materia, otherwise the melds will not work.

First: 275K for Weapon and Materia????? If this was for your Relic Weapon, Sir, you have been fooled.

As far as the melds themselves go, make sure the carbonized matter is the same grade as the materia, otherwise the melds will not work.

They have to be at the level of the piece of Armor/Weapon you wanna meld but can also be higher.
It will warn you then, that higher Carb as needed will be used.

Let's just make it simple. I spend a #@$! ton of money on that stuff (Relic Weapon PLD). I got some Grade 5 matter from a quest. I just wanna be sure i can use those to actually meld the battledance III materia into my Aeolian Scimitar? I didn't really check the price on Matter 3 or 4 but i bet they are just as pricy as anything else that i find on Jenova... But if i ain't got a choice, i'll buy some matter grade that fits with my materia/scimitar.

it started like that everywhere, then more people get 50 smiths and it becomes less of an issue, now most servers will have people doing it for free

fc friends will probably do it free too, if you're not already in one, think about it

Yeah nah, i have a FC but only asked briefly lol. Was just kinda curious why did people ask money + the mats lol. I thought i had forgot something that actually cost something or whatever lol. But yeah, i'll make sure to find someone in my FC if there's anyone lol

Some crafters will ask for a tip, mainly for their time and the like.
Other crafters, won't ask for one outright.
Nevertheless, it is always nice to tip someone for services rendered, ne?

Ultimately, if you don't want to pay this specific person you can always go and find another who may not ask for a tip. ^^

I'm still kinda new to the game, so i didn't really know a tip was something like 50k+ lmao :P
But i guess i need to make a blacksmith 50 someday so i can actually be there for other players. Such a cruel world xD

Two weeks ago I saw sbdy shouting in Gridania to insert Materia (also starting with Relic quest). I replied and 1st thing he asked me was how much I want. I answered with "a Thank you is enough" and he was so glad because it turned out that it was his 1st char and he scraped almost all the GIL together he had to get the weapon and the Materias. The extra tip most wanted (50k to 100k) was more than he had and he told me he was shouting since two hours already. It took me under a minute to make him happy. That's more worth than a tip for something that doesn't cost me anything but a small tiny bit of my time.
