Unable to play with gamepad

First off, I don't know if this is more a suggestion or a bug, however it seems more like a bad/wrong code or something esque bug. Sorry in advance if this is the wrong forum.

Platform:
PC-Windows

Situation:

While playing FFXIV with gamepad, if the gamepad turns off (disconnected) by a "autosave energy" or due a technical problem and turn on, the game will no longer recognize the gamepad and you are unable to play with it untill full-reboot of the game.
This happens in both windowed and fullscreen mode.

So far this game and FFXI are the only games that this happen. It should be able to recognize it and be able to keep playing with no problem.

Imo this is definately a bug in the code. The normal behaviour is that windows registers the pad with the same ID which shouldn't cause any problem at all. They are probably disabling the input on a device error and never check if it has been plugged back in.

Sorry to hear you've been having all that trouble with connecting the game to a controller. The thread has been moved over from In-Game Bugs to Technical Support since they may be able to help resolve the issue here. Hopefully everything gets worked out soon enough!

It doesn't matter wireless or wired, the problem is there. Loose connection for even a second and you have to re-start the game. One of the reasons the gamepad options should be in the game's menu, not outside.

I ask because it does matter. Its much easier to keep a wired controller from disassociating. In fact, I have -never- had a problem with it on a wired controller. Wireless however, is another issue. Most of them have built in battery saving features that require awareness by programers or you have the problem 14 has. At least with wired, you can work around it. Wireless is much harder because often you -can't- turn it off completely.

EDIT: Admittedly, the "fix" for wired controllers isn't a fix at all; its a work around, and one that doesn't always work for laptops.

Complicated workaround and random loss of gamepad inputs or a small fix to the game code? What would you do? ^^
Sometimes I'm really wondering what the devs are thinking...

Not too complicated. But yes, it is a bug, and they need to treat it as one.

Hello, I use the gamepad as well and I am experiencing the same problem along with another friend who uses the gamepad. We both use Xbox 360 controllers and If we take a break the controller shuts down and are unable to play unless we reboot. Please try to fix this , it's not a game breaker, but it is a major inconvenience.

Xbox 360 wireless controller- Cant go afk from the game or the controller stops working, please fix this
I used a controller fine in FFXI.

ps.only 2 things making me want to log out - this problem, and the main Thannalan music, puts me to sleep
enjoying being able to seek party and aa etc.
