    PSA Regarding Big Pulls

As weeks go by, I've been noticing that more and more tanks are doing incredibly large pulls (and often in a very inefficient manner). Is this the new standard? Big pulls don't always equal better pulls, especially if you have melee DPS in your groups, most notably MNK. Even if DRG's can Doom Spike, it eats TP fast as hell even with Invigorate. There are certain group compositions where big pulls ARE better, like BLM and BRD, but with melee, you could do smaller pulls and have a healer DPS as well instead of full time healing. If you're a tank, don't just assume that big pulls are always best, and instead look at your group composition before deciding how big you want to pull. Thank you.

    1. This is not a PSA
    2. Make friends with a tank who will accommodate your pulling needs and you will solve all your problems
    3. Become a tank who does little pulls
    4. Become a bard or black mage that can accommodate big pulls.

As a healer I have no problem with, and even like, big pulls. It's so boring to toss one heal off, afk for 30 seconds until another heal is needed.
That being said I've been in some groups where the DPS just DO NOT know what to do. I was in a party with two BLM's and they single-targeted like they were gunning down the last 3 percent in a boss battle. A pull with 15ish mobs literally took about 5 minutes to kill down one by one. Tank and I were /really/ confused at the DPS not AoEing, and they didn't really respond as to why they weren't. It was weird.

    Ooh my turn.

    1) whatev
    2) works well until they cant play and you want to
    3) works until dps decide to what they want and dont listen
    4) shouldn't have to change class to accomodate speedruns

    Ta-dah!

    1. I don't have a problem keeping up with big pulls.
    2. I have a PLD.
    3. I main BLM and have to deal with tanks who cannot keep aggro on big pulls which (surprise!) actually makes the run slower instead of faster.

I'm not saying that big pulls are always bad, or that smaller pulls are always best (you have to look at your group composition in order to determine what will achieve the most efficient run). All I'm saying is that pulling bigger is not always better. A run is not always made faster by pulling more groups, especially if you cannot mitigate. Some people have the misconception that big pulls are ALWAYS better.

Can I do a PSA too?

    Hello tanks!

When pulling more than ten enemies simultaneously, please look towards your Rampart, Sentinel, Hallowed Ground, Bulwark, Convalescence, Foresight, Thrill of Battle and/or Vengeance buttons. Pressing them too would be even nicer, but small steps!

    With regards,

your dear Healer who wants to Holy really really badly.

I think your thread is basically "if you can't handle it, don't do big pulls" so ultimately this is just thread #121251 about bad tanks in duty finder :P

I have a slight problem when it comes to healing as a sch. maybe i'm doing something wrong..but
when someone, mostly a WAR does a huge pull i have trouble healing...maybe coz im not a burst healer but a mitigater.
no problems if i was a whm tho. [which i was on a different character.]

i totally forgot abt ey4eye. and yes i use lustrate like a boss

I like when people that dont even know a job comment on its ability to do good in certain situations.
