You're so right and also I can't stop laughing at that last part. The world is so weird.
You people make it seem like a simple request is the end of the world.
Like asking someone to not assume you're a guy (which by the way -is- sexist, as it implies girls don't play games)
Or like asking someone to change what they call you
Clearly this girl is entitled because she wants to be respected. Shes definitely looking for attention and pushing an agenda on people because she told everyone her situation. Because you know... if you're trans you should never tell anyone ABOUT WHO YOU ARE. (/sarcasm if you didn't get that)
The polite thing to do here is say "yeah, admittedly people are sexist and I'll try to make sure I'm not one of them"
Not: "YOUR A FEMINIST TRANS ATTENTION PERSON!! STOP THE AGENDA!!! THE PATRIARCHY IS A LIE!!! MUFFINS!! LETS REFER TO YOU AS IT!!!"
Everybody chill the duck down.
Since they're not the ones starting threads about how hurt they are that someone mistakenly misgendered them, yes, I do believe you're the one who's too sensitive.I want to note that I never called anyone sexist, only specific behaviors, and even specified that people are not wholly defined by single actions. (Okay, that's not true, I called the people of the late 19th century sexist but I don't think we have anyone in this thread over the age of 100)
Like, yes I criticized your actions but I specified that that doesn't mean you ARE a particular thing but everyone is saying I insulted them. I'm the one who's too sensitive?
It's a legitimate equality issue. No, it's not hard to do those things, and I call people by their character's gender all the time and correct myself if someone requests me to, but don't go around telling everyone else in the game to conform to you and your feelings.
Why the fuck does any of this matter? It's a video game. If you get offended by getting called a male and it ACTUALLY hurts your feelings, then you have bigger issues in your life you need to worry about.
You don't go around assuming everyone who plays a "thief" class in a game is "black" because that would be incredibly silly and racist.
Much like you shouldn't go around assuming everyone in a game is a boy because that's incredibly sexist
It's not an overly difficult concept to grasp. If people are totally cool with obvious stereotypes then all they do is promote that stereotype
If you are stuck dealing with any form of discrimination on a normal basis, you obviously don't want to have to deal with it on an online game you play to escape the fail-ness of the real world.
So why does avoiding sexism matter?
Because sexism is a form of discrimination
And in the modern world, thanks to science, and people finally being somewhat smart, that is no longer acceptable. Whatever the form.
Mew!
Here's the fun part:
There has been a total of 6 posts deleted...so the mods have been here, but they aren't locking or deleting this topic.
What gives? It doesn't even have anything to XIV but one time we made a funny "DF Horror stories" thread that y'know
actually was about the game, which was a fun read and that got deleted. God forbid we talk about the game and that gets deleted.
But hurt feelings from randies online with gender problems or whatever the hell this has taken a turn to, still rolls on.
All I learned from this was: I'm just going to say "Hi all!" and "Thanks everyone." for now on and nothing past that.
I'm scared I'm going to posted on the net because
I said guy, girl, it, she or dog incorrectly.
If I'm on Tumblr.......HI MOM!!!!
[She uses Tumblr too LOL.]

I don't see a problem. I play both male and female characters and I'm a female player. I can see why some will get upset. But at the end of the day it is just a game and most of these people you'll never see or meet. Unless you know them in rl or arranged to meet them. And don't let what people call you get to you......because the trolls will get! They can smell blood.
By the way, people saying this is just the Internet and get thicker skin - there are laws in some states about cyber bullying and people have been prosecuted for it. For those of you thinking that words don't matter, think again. They can have real consequences and the existence of these laws is evidence of the state's acknowledgement of that.
Again, doing this will still result in being corrected. It doesn't solve the "problem".
That is completely pointless and a huge waste of time.
Sure. But that's not good enough for the OP.
Yeah they need to lock it seriously. Nothing more can be said. OP won't get what others are saying and other people while they understand can't be bothered to take it serious enough on a game. LET IT GO EVERYONE.Here's the fun part:

TLDR: we all have different perspectives who'd have thought dammit!
And you, you need to stop. You're a habitual line stepper let it go. Go play ffxiv everyone just let it go.By the way, people saying this is just the Internet and get thicker skin - there are laws in some states about cyber bullying and people have been prosecuted for it. 1) Not everyone here lives in the states.By the way, people saying this is just the Internet and get thicker skin - there are laws in some states about cyber bullying and people have been prosecuted for it. For those of you thinking that words don't matter, think again. They can have real consequences and the existence of these laws is evidence of the state's acknowledgement of that.
2) Sounds like you're trying to bully and threaten everyone who doesn't agree with you.
