That's what I started to wonder.
Tumblr, where your being offended is more valid than someone elses rights! A place of equality (unless you're white, cis, middle class or better or male. Mercy help you if you're all of the above)

Summary of this thread:
- OP makes a simple request: use pronouns that are appropriate to their character's gender. You wouldn't call a man a she or a woman a he in the real world. Why would we do it in the game world?
- People who don't want to reconsider the language they use defend it with: "This is the way it's always been", "Women don't exist on the Internet (or in numbers so low we can still treat them like they're irrelevant)", and the predictable "too sensitive", "drama queen", "hysterical" nonsense.
- Pointless comments are made in attempts to derail the thread.
- OP is called a troll because posters don't agree with her (everyone who has a different point of view is a troll you know).
- Posters get nastier and nastier, dabbling in sexism and transphobia.
- The same posters demand the thread be locked because it is the OP obviously who is a troll.
Edit: Also I'm sick of the "bend backward" rhetoric. It's the same kind of drivel that you can read in the comments section of any LGBT article on the Internet. Nobody is asking anyone to do something actually difficult here.
Example: You see a female character and you refer to them as she. Scenario 1: "I'm a dude." OK, no problem, man. Scenario 2: They (whether they're really a man or a woman) don't correct you. So who cares? If you think this is a difficult social interaction, it's you, not the OP who has psychological issues.

Ahem, you might have missed a point where the OP is generally insulting everyone that doesn't agree as sexist.Summary of this thread:

This thread didn't go of the rails before that point, just read the whole thing.
the only "personal circumstances" that anyone needed to know was you're a woman. Anything more than that was you trolling and trying to start stuff. I'm sorry you feel so offended at random strangers not knowing how special you are and calling you the gender you prefer, but again you knew from the beginning mentioning you were a man before was only going to cause problems. IDC who it is if you want to make a complaint present sound arguments not "X is offensive because I'm special and demand special treatment and if you don't give into my demands you're all ignorant sexist bigots"Well, for one, I've never "used to be a man". Nor do I have a "man's body". I'm a woman. This is my body. Ergo it is a woman's body.
As for why I brought my being trans into it, because I was hoping informing people that there are personal circumstances people can have that can make being misgendered more than just annoying or insulting.
Besides, don't go into blaming a trans woman being insulted and harassed on her being open about her trans status. People are fully responsible for their own actions, and the people being overtly transphobic are fully responsible for theirs.
And with this I'm done. it was fun playing your troll game, but you're not even trying anymore
What do I call you then? A selfish entitled anti-cis attention seeking trans? I don't think anyone here is actually anti-trans in any way. I just think people are telling you to get thicker skin which goes for ANYONE with ANY background of any kind.
The world doesn't revolve around you, nor should it. To denounce anyone that disagrees with you as an anti-trans bigot is bigotry in itself.
I want to note that I never called anyone sexist, only specific behaviors, and even specified that people are not wholly defined by single actions. (Okay, that's not true, I called the people of the late 19th century sexist but I don't think we have anyone in this thread over the age of 100)
Like, yes I criticized your actions but I specified that that doesn't mean you ARE a particular thing but everyone is saying I insulted them. I'm the one who's too sensitive?

I did read the whole thread and generally found it pretty depressing but not because of the OPs posts, which seemed reasonable to me. It's true that not everyone in this thread is sexist but there's surely enough of it here to dominate someone's experience. It's similar you know to saying you'll use the word "he" because it's correct 90% of the time. Call everyone in this thread sexist and you'll be just as correct (and saying that 10% of the posts are non-sexist is being pretty generous).
There is no need for this thread, its a MMO nobody gives a crap about your gender, there are guys who play female just to stare at their behinds, girls who play guys so they don't get hit on by pervs.
its not like people hop on the game to ask you if you are a man or a woman-
I say good job guys when we beat the dungeon "guys" meaning anyone im not gonna stop to ask them their name, what gender they are or say both, you wont force me to do what you want, you don't own anyone's opinion.
pointless thread.
The world is so weird. Asking people to not assume gender results in a bunch of sexism and homophobia.
It's really not hard to:
1. call people the gender their character is
2. ask people what they would like to be called
3. change what you call someone based on what they ask
You people make it seem like a simple request is the end of the world.
Like asking someone to not assume you're a guy (which by the way -is- sexist, as it implies girls don't play games)
Or like asking someone to change what they call you
Clearly this girl is entitled because she wants to be respected. Shes definitely looking for attention and pushing an agenda on people because she told everyone her situation. Because you know... if you're trans you should never tell anyone ABOUT WHO YOU ARE. (/sarcasm if you didn't get that)
The polite thing to do here is say "yeah, admittedly people are sexist and I'll try to make sure I'm not one of them"
Not: "YOUR A FEMINIST TRANS ATTENTION PERSON!! STOP THE AGENDA!!! THE PATRIARCHY IS A LIE!!! MUFFINS!! LETS REFER TO YOU AS IT!!!"
No, it's not hard to do those things, and I call people by their character's gender all the time and correct myself if someone requests me to, but don't go around telling everyone else in the game to conform to you and your feelings.
Why the fuck does any of this matter? It's a video game. If you get offended by getting called a male and it ACTUALLY hurts your feelings, then you have bigger issues in your life you need to worry about.
