I generally always call the gender of a person what gender their character is until I know them. However I mistake lalafells a lot, as they are sometimes tricky to tell the difference in game. Camera angle makes it tricky to see other than the top of the head.

Insensitivity in video games has been around since the 80's.

    Shame on you, Guile!

Well, this sure did turn into a thread full of cis people trivializing and mocking the fact that a trans woman doesn't like being misgendered.

Sure is some community Square Enix has gotten together.

Really it's pointless, people aren't intentionally misgendering you, it's just the default people go to, it's a simple fact of life that can't be changed no matter how much you complain it. While admirable to try and make a different it really is futile. The only option right now for you is to either grow thicker skin, make your own group that you run with exclusively that genders you however you want, or simply quit since I can promise you there is no way you're going to convince a significant enough of the population to gender you properly in random groups based on your character that would ever make you feel comfortable and happy.

Nobodies really trivializing your condition, I'm sure under different circumstances they would actually be very supportive, what's being trivialized is your attempt to change the entire player bases viewpoint in a single thread.

Here you trivialize and mock the fact that they don't agree with you, or do agree with you and don't see why it's such a huge problem, or they're just mocking each other.

    Isn't language fun?

    Look, here's the problem.

You're seeing a problem that nobody else is having. Sure, some people don't like being called by a different gender, but they don't make a big deal out of it.
If a vast, vast, VAST majority of the players does not see the problem, and only you and a handful of others do, then maybe the other players aren't the problem.
Look, it's really hard to say something like that and I don't want to hurt your feelings, but sometimes you have to toughen up. I know you have actual problems with this and you can't just tell someone to ignore their problem, but maybe you just have to deal with it. The problem here is that calling other players a 'he' is a safe measure that works nearly all the time. And because of a very small exception, everybody is expected to change their ways. Why should everybody change just to cater to the needs of one person? Yeah, sometimes it's nice and considerate, but then we'd have to cater to every single small necessity of every single person alive. Can't make religious statement ("Thank god") because someone is offended. Can't mention romance, love or sex because someone with sexual issues is offended. Etcetera.
That makes the word unlivable. And here it's even worse because nobody even knows you have the problem in-game. You can't expect the rest of the world to tip-toe around, trying to avoid people taking offense to what they say. If random people don't actually mean bad with their speech, ignore it. They don't know better, and if you want to, correct them. Most players will oblige, and then the situation is solved like adults. If someone is a dick about it, report for harassment.

    This is all that matters.

If someone says something that offends you in an open, public discourse, tell them it offends you and ask them to stop. Don't passive-aggressively accept it and then go make a fuss elsewhere and try to get society's rules changed. That only makes more people resent you more.

This. I don't know how many times I ran dungeons with another Lala thinking it was a male Lala only to zoom in later an realize it was actually a girl.

There is a silver lining here.... You're only being "tivialized and mocked" over the use of pronouns by people who don't know you versus being mocked about your true self identity.

Not really. There's a lot of transphobia in this topic. People deliberately misgendering me. Mocking trans identities. Etc.

I think it's pretty insulting that I'm expected to just ask people to call me she when everyone reading this thread knows that I'm a girl and there are still people misgendering me. You think that won't happen in the game as well? You don't think that plays a role in why I'd rather be able to avoid the situation entirely by being gendered correctly the first time?

"Just ask them to call you she!" Except then I get "No girls on the internet" and all sorts of other outdated sexist nonsense.
