How many limited-time quest-rewards have already passed?

Because of some issues with the online-shop, I wound up missing out on the game until just a few days ago. I'm curious; what all have I already missed-out on, besides just the pre-order bonuses? I'm seeing that there was at least one event that rewarded new armor and hair-styles, based on Lightning and Snow, so I'm just curious what else?

Also, don't suppose there's any possibility that event might return in the future, perhaps? I'll admit, I never cared for Final Fantasy XIII myself, but those were some stylish folks :P

Well, there's been at least three seperate seasonal events which have come and gone since launch - a very late Summer event (Moonfire Faire), which had new and old 1.0 swimwear, the Halloween event (All Saints Eve) which had ghost costumes and Halloween inspired food items along with the Pumpkin head costume headgear from 1.0, and finally, most recently, the Christmas event (the Starlight Celebration) which had snowman costumes and Santa sleigh barding for your chocobo plus the Santa and reindeer costumes from 1.0. All these events are classed as 'seasonal', so they should all return (with new items plus the old ones for sale) when the time comes.

The only other special event that happened was the FFXIII Lightning event which gave players Lightning and Snow costumes plus FFXIII/XIII-2 themed weapons, but that should be returning in February to coincide with the international release of Lightning Returns. So you'll have a chance to do that.

Other than these events, the only other 'bonus items'/rewards that were formerly offered but are now unavailable are mostly related to version 1.0, specifically the Legacy Campaign (special chocobo mount, name in credits), or items and achievements that were only offered in 1.0 and are now unattainable, like the Hermes Shoes and the Gobbuue Mount. SE have stated these will never be available again, so sadly if you didn't have 1.0 and gained them then, you're out of luck I'm sorry to say.

Ah, well I suppose it makes sense to have some things exclusive to Legacy members (although I'm particularly jealous of the "Legacy tattoo" I've heard about). Awesome to hear the Lightning Returns event will be... errm, returning, lol. The only one I do hope they reconsider is the Onion Knight helmet, as that is something I fully intend to deck a Lalafell out in, assuming I ever get the time to level one :P

    Anyways, thanks for the heads-up!

Actually, the Onion Helm is technically still available - SE stated that any unused item codes for 1.0 will still work, including the Onion Helm. You'll just have to track down an unopened version 1.0 Collector's Edition to get it though, and given the fact SE ordered all retailers who still had unsold stock of the original version's Collector's Edition to return them to SE for disposal, they'll be increasingly hard to find.

Another special item bonus that was only offered for a short time and is now no longer available, is the Cactuar Earrings/Bomb Earrings - offered as a result of a special event at the Tokyo Games Show last year, all servers ended up having the Cactaur Earrings, but only a selection of servers had the Bomb Earrings available. Sadly though they could only be gained prior to the 2.1 patch going live - the npcs that offered these items for sale have since been removed, so they're no longer attainable sadly (the 2.1 patch was added in December).

Plus a fourth that's come and not yet gone. The Heavensturn (New Year's) event lasts until Jan 14th I believe. (Its quests start in Gridania, then have you travel to Limsa Lominsa and Ul'dah, so you'll need airship access unlocked. The quests are kind of silly and reward the horsehead helmets used during them. But you can also simply buy the helmets that were created for previous years' Heavensturn events. I like the ones from the year of the dragon.)

The Lightning Strikes event has IMHO the best rewards of any of the events so far, but to get all of them you need to be level 45, although you can get all the weapons by level 15. (Earlier for characters who start in Limsa Lominsa, who can do so by around level 9 or 10. The 15 requirement for others is because they have to be able to get to Limsa Lominsa.) I'm a little disappointed. With my only female alt being currently level 13, there's virtually no chance I'll be able to get Lightning's coat when the event comes around again (as I'm pretty sure that one's the level 45 reward). Snow's outfit isn't nearly as cool looking.

Yeah, I didn't mention Heavensturn as it's an event that's currently running. The snake kabuto by the way is also new, it was never offered in 1.0 due to the fact 1.0 was shut down at the end of last year and hence the Heavensturn event for last year never happened. So that's a late offering.

As for the original topic of this thread, after a bit of head scratching and checking equipment databases on several sites, this is the list of what limited-time items are no longer available in ARR:

Seasonal Event Items (note: seasonal events are reoccurring and will return at a specific time each year, presumably offering new items as well items listed in previous years for sale while the event is running):

Swimwear from Moonfire Faire (summer event, both the new swimwear for ARR, and the swimwear offered in 1.0)
Yukutas from Moonfire Faire in 1.0 (apparently these will be returning next year)
Loveheart chokers and associated items from 1.0 Valentione's Day (Valentine's Day)
Valentione's chef and maid costumes from the first ARR Valentione's Day event
Mini-Princess Edvya minion, peach earrings and rice cakes from Little Ladies Day (event similar to a traditional Japanese event)
Egg hats and egg rings from Hatchingtide in 1.0 (Easter event)
Egg harness chocobo barding from this year's Hatchingtide
Ghost costumes and pumpkin headgear from All Saints Eve (Halloween)
Snowman costumes, reindeer chocobo barding, and the santa and reindeer costumes from 1.0 from the Starlight Celebration (Christmas)
Animal totem hats from Heavensturn (New Year's Event - each year has a hat in the shape of the Chinese animal for that new year - one just passed was a horse)
Bomb choker (special item only offered as a reward for winning seasonal event screenshot competitions Square Enix have been running from time to time - replaces the Ahriman choker)

Additionally, these are special items or equipment now permanently unavailable in ARR:

Cait Sith Minion and Moogle Hat (pre-order bonus items for ARR - the item codes for these items became invalid on January the 1st - however, these items have been confirmed to be returning as a bonus for pre-ordering the PS4 version)
Cactuar Earrings (special bonus item added as a result of the Titan challenge event at the Tokyo Games Show last year - all servers had access to this item, npc offering it was removed in December)
Bomb Earrings (special bonus item added as a result of the Titan challenge event at the Tokyo Games Show last year - only certain servers had access to this item, npc offering it was removed in December)
FFXI Mini-Shantotto minion (gained by completing the FFXI crossover event 'Burgeoning Dread' in Gridania that ran in January - as event has now finished is now unattainable)
Thug-Mug mask (headgear gained by completing the Dragon Quest Online quest in Ul'dah that ran in January - as event has now finished it can not be attained)
Wind-up Brickman minion (gained by completing the Dragon Quest Online quest in Ul'dah that ran in January - as event has now finished it can not be attained)
FFXIII Lightning and Snow costumes and FFXIII/XIII-2/LR:FFXIII themed weapons from the Lightning Strikes event (first offered in November, event returned in February as cross marketing for the US/EU release of Lightning Returns - event has now ended and items are now unattainable. Apparently will not be offered again)
Ahriman choker (only could be gained as a prize for winning various special event screenshot contests Square Enix have been running recently. Now replaced as a prize with the Bomb choker)

Secondly, these are items and equipment that could only attained in FFXIV version 1.0 and is now unattainable in ARR:

Hermes Shoes (were only available in 1.0 for a short time to those who linked an active FFXI account with their FFXIV 1.0 account - offer was later shut down)
Asuran Armlets (special 1.0 handgear only attainable by US players by registering a first release version of FFXIII to the (now altered) Square Enix Members site - the item code for this would then be emailed to the player. This function has since been shut down and this is now longer attainable).
Dated gear (not really 'special' gear - this was old equipment from the launch of 1.0 prior to a certain patch changed equipment, thus gear that proceeded this patch was retroactively renamed 'dated' gear. Crafting recipes to make dated gear have been removed and thus unless already possessed cannot be attained - they're also classed as Unique and Untradeable and thus cannot be sold on the Market Board nor given to other players.)
Weathered starting armour (not the new high level 'weathered' equipment recently added to the game, this is original starting armour from version 1.0 that was class specific, rather than racial like starting armour is in ARR. Like dated gear weathered starting armour is now unattainable in ARR)
Goobbue mount (was only available to players over level 30 in 1.0 for a short time.)
Dalamud Horn (special headgear gained upon completing the 'Seventh Umbral Era' storyline in 1.0. Now unattainable)
White Raven Earrings (special earrings that could only be gained by defeating Nael van Darnus in Hard Mode (the final battle of the 7th Umbral Era storyline ) in 1.0. I've heard only about 400 players ever actually achieved this. Now unattainable)
'Guardian' rings (a ring for your character's chosen 'Guardian' god or goddess of the Twelve. Was only available during the final 'Living on a Prayer' quest as part of the Seventh Umbral Era storyline where your character had to pray at each god or goddess's deity stone - the ring was given after praying at the one for your Guardian. Is now unattainable).
Legacy chocobo mount (only available to 1.0 players who qualified for the 'Legacy Campaign' - that is, paid for more than 90 days consecutive subscription in 1.0 during a certain time period. The Legacy Campaign ended in September 2012, so is now completely unattainable).
"Mark of the Twelve' tattoo (special mark on the upper back that is given to all player characters from 1.0 who are transferred into ARR, irrespective of how far you got in 1.0 or whether you qualified for the Legacy Campaign. Cannot be attained by new characters.)
Mandeville earrings (items gained for completing all of Hildibrand's quests towards the end of version 1.0. Hildibrand's quest line in ARR is completely different, so it remains to be seen whether or not these will ever be brought back once his new quest is completed in the future).
Damaged Wood Wailer's Jacket (a unique version of the regular jacket body piece that was used for a Leatherworker class quest in 1.0 - technically the item was meant to be turned in as part of the quest, but due to an oversight it was classed as wearable equipment, hence a lot of players deliberately kept this piece and never completed the quest. Thus this item is now completely unattainable, due to the LWR class quests being changed in ARR)

Finally, these are special items and equipment that although currently can still be attained, the methods to do so are becoming increasingly harder to attain or will be unattainable in the future:

Windup Dalamud Minion (gained with the first print of the Before Meteor 1.0 soundtrack Bluray album - only the first run of albums will have this code. Also the code is only valid up to the end of this year - any codes unredeemed by this date will no longer be valid)
Windup Bahamut Minion (like the Windup Dalamud, this is gained on an item code voucher included with the first print of the FFXIV A Real Reborn OST sounctrack Bluray album. Only the first (although current) production of albums will include this code. This code will expire on December 31st, 2015 so there is still a fair amount of time to gain this before the axe falls.)
Onion Helm (bonus item gained with the version 1.0 Collector's Edition - code is still redeemable but all unsold copies of the game have been requested by SE to be returned to them for disposal, thus making this very hard to find now)
Garlond Goggles (bonus item gained with the first run of the version 1.0 Standard edition - code is still redeemable but all unsold copies of the game like the 1.0 CE have been requested to be returned to them to be disposed. Thus this too will be virtually impossible to gain now.)
Baby Behemoth minion (ARR Collector's Edition bonus item - as there have only been a limited amount of ARR CEs produced, this will be increasingly difficult to gain)
Behemoth chocobo barding (ARR Collector's Edition bonus item - as per the Baby Behemoth minion
Helm of Light (ARR Collector's Edition bonus item - as per the Baby Behemoth minion and Behemoth barding)
Coreul mount (ARR Collector's Edition bonus item - as per the Baby Behemoth minion, Behemoth barding and Helm of Light)
Fat Chocobo mount (ARR Collector's Edition bonus item - included by default with the PS4 CE and added retroactively to all current owners of the earlier CE versions - 1.0, ARR PC and PS3)
Moogle Doll minion (ARR Collector's Edition bonus item - as per the Fat Chocobo mount)

Phew. I think that's all of it, but if there's anything I've missed, please feel free to add to this.

I'm not sure how many standalone Collectors Editions were produced, but anyone with the Standard Edition can purchase the CE Digital Upgrade through the Mog Station. (The CE Digital Upgrade just adds the in-game bonus items from the collector's edition to an existing account.)

Awesome, thanks a ton for the break-down, Enkidoh!!!

Definitely missed out on some cool stuff, but hopefully we'll get some new stuff to look forward to! Bummed about missing out on the Moogle Hat, though, plus the Cactuar/Bomb earrings (if only I had started a few days sooner!!!)

Moogle Earrings from the 25th Anniversary Ultimate Box is another one. It's only usable on JP accounts as is, but if you email SE about it they can wave their magic wand and give you a new code that works for NA accounts. That's what I did and I now have my lovely Moogle Earrings which are identical to the Cactuar Earrings. :P

This is BS, just found out the Cactuar and Bomb Earrings were removed after running around looking for the Moogles - after having passed them many times and not known the items had a cutoff date.
SE should not be so pathetic about these things, as it's not fair to players who aren't in the know because you have to trawl through websites to find the information. To say they are 'permanently unavailable' is just rubbish.
They also banned my account wrongly and messed me around with very slow support which meant I missed out on the Halloween Event since they couldn't get their act together. Love the game, can't stand SE sometimes.
