Here's a groundbreaking idea that is sure to cause some stir. Be careful though, this might be so radical that your groups might not go for it. It works like this:

    Step 1: Open chat
Step 2: Tell your group how you plan to pull, so they're prepared
Step 3: If the healer doesn't think they can keep up, or if the group in general doesn't like it, then tone it back a bit so everybody is happy.
Step 4: (Victory fanfare goes here)

Yeah, I was gonna say, as a PLD doing roulettes, if I ever get a dungeon like brayflox or something, I always ask the party before we start if they want a normal run or a speed run. If they want a speed run I then ask if I can do really large pulls and then adjust accordingly. It just comes down to being willing to communicate with your teammates, that's all. (and saving a Hallowed Ground in case that first huge pull goes downhill)

I actually just force-DC'd from a group for this so I could re-que as a tank with a party with some semblance of rationality.

Basically, they wanted a full Brayflox speed run pull. I got complaints from the healer saying "This is sad, I'm streaming this on twitch!" So? Our freaking party comp is SCH, DRG, BRD. Our ST DPS is by far, possibly one of THE best potentials we have. But the bard decided to start going ahead of the group, pulling extra and I won't take for some people that are -that- daft.

So, force DC and call it a day. I'll be back on in 10 minutes and will re-que with people who have some semblance of sanity. If you're gonna go out of your way to grief the tank, I'm just gonna DC because honestly, the time you're wasting 'trying to make the pulls bigger' is just wasting all of our time as you lose DPS upkeep.

When running as a PLD I find, in general, that a group's ability to kill large groups of monsters is not always indicated by their class. That is why in Duty Finder parties, I always pull the first two groups, see how that goes, then decide how to pace the run from there on. It's not about big pulls or small pulls being better or worse, it's about tailoring the play style to the group.

This subject came up and was hit on a lot in this thread. http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...89#post2035489

I made a post mentioning how healers sometimes get pissed you SR, others get pissed off you aren't pulling the whole zone. There are also tanks that are comfortable doing it with a big pull and others that don't. Some people ask. Others assume, based on /check. Others just don't care and SR no matter what, and if the run fails they /leave. That last group is the ones that you should be worried about. Also I understand there's a lot of healers against big pulls just because they are really uncertain of their abilities. My fiancee as a example, just a couple days ago got to the point in zodiac where she can farm myths with me. Shes a whm I'm a tank. In the past, I noticed how shes always yelling at the screen when tanks try pulling a lot of things. When we did brayflox HM for the first time together for myth SR, I told her she is ilvl 94 and I'm ilvl 94, it won't be hard, and she should just give it a try. And re-assured her if we fail we can give it a couple more tries. She reluctantly gave it a go. Suffice to say, it was a effortless run, granted we had a bard and a blm that knew what to do as well. She was amazed how easy it was, and felt bad for all those times she got mad at tanks. I told her that it can work most of the time, but you have to have all the right pieces. Good AoE dmg, good geared tank, a tank that knows how to get the hell out of stuff, and not stand there and take all of the AoEs, blms that know how to blow it up, and brd(or other DDs)know how to optimize and even out the group.

    As a Tank.

    Zone in

Check party composition, two aoe's awesome. "Healer you ok with bigger pulls?" Sure!

Zone in check party composition, one single target dps, one aoe. "Healer you ok with big pulls?" Sure

Zone in, check party composition, two single target dps, "Two single target dps, going to go for med sized pulls, that ok with everyone?" Sure

It's all about talking to your party before you run off.

I've come across tanks doing ridiculous pulls. I'm usually with my healer friend and if he feels the pull is too big (as in the tank is ill equipped for such), he just won't heal them and they die. Then he lets them know not to do it again, lest he wish the same result.

If you don't tell a tank, that is your plan from the start, then you are just as bad as they are for not communicating with you about how they plan to pull. Just sayin.
