    FFXIV 1.0 nostalgia (something that 1.0 did right & 2.0 didn't)

    Some 1.0 videos enjoy

    Opening

    Garuda:
1.0 Garuda looks scary, attack sound effects are impressive.
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=goKSqF9fldE

2.0 Garuda look like a bird:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fJFz5oFH2PM
Yoshi-P told us to "zoom out",but I really think he should limit the zoom distance.

    Some 1.0 game play videos:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3XWjdKre5kg
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_dvuraip7A0

The atmosphere, the attractive immersion, the relax & romance feelings. something special that 1.0 had.
it's sad that 2.0 did not successfully capture these feelings

I know 1.0 maps are copy & pasted, but I really enjoy the 1.0 atmosphere.
    to me 2.0 feel......impetuous? superficiality? ....I don't know..

The only scary thing I saw in that 1.0 garuda clip was how frighteningly awkward the old combat system looked

2.0 combat system looks fun in the first or two months.
but now, playing with the skill rotations over and over and over again just bored me.

1.23 combat system was more playable over the long-term

Because waiting for your PT to fill up was way more entertaining.

I'm not really speaking for the combat gameplay-wise because well...I didn't play 1.0 or 1.23. All I can base my opinions on are what I see, so :

He actually faces away from her for a fair bit and casts spells on himself. It drives me nuts with how stupid it looks

"Here you can beat me up from the back while I stand here and cast my spells. Naw I mean it, it's cool."

1.23 was not a perfect game, far from it. (slow ui,copy & pasted maps, unrealistic lighting)
I quote my first post:"The atmosphere, the attractive immersion, the relax & romance feelings. something special that 1.0 had."

1.23 was an unfinished AAA MMO. it had depth, had an attractive atmosphere.
    2.0 is a refined....theme park candy land.

Having also played 1.0, I assume you DID play 1.0, I have to disagree with 1.0's 'attractive immersion'. The world zones were certainly larger and the hidden zone breaks made it feel even bigger (in Thanalan every thin, deep canyon was a zone break) but that shear blandness of every zone with only 2-3 unique elements made it feel more a slog to travel through than the zones of XI, which were largely unique and had alot more variety despite being a much older game on a much more inferior console (I speak of the PS2). Wow, that was a long sentence. With 2.0 the zones are certainly smaller but each one is unique, filled with elements rarely repeated. I love just chocobo'ing my way around the world because it's just nice to look at whereas 1.0 I used the airships and warped every time I needed to travel, it was that dreary.

Sadly the mechanics used in 1.23 vastly differ from 2.0.
1.23 was very very slow in comparison to 2.0, but a huge difference is the battle-effects.
In 2.0 we have A LOT of battle effects going off at once, you can barely see what's being attacked most of the time from the array of fireworks and explosions emitting from your enemy.

1.23 most certainly had more 'weight' to it and things seemed much larger, Ifrit, Garuda, Nael Van Darnus as a result of this. A great emphasis on realistic animations and timing helped. (Even if the combat was slow and unrealistic, at least the animaitons were) which made the weight of it all seem much more "terrifying" and thrilling in 1.23 because of the general camera position.

It's something I immediatley noticed in 2.0 once I got to Titan, where my camera was in the 1.23 position up until I fought Titan Hard Mode where I learnt to force myself to zoom the camera out, and it's been stuck there ever since.

... it's Garuda. It's supposed to look like a bird.

Also, bleh 1.0 combat... if I wanted slow and clunky combat I'd resub to FFXI.

This last part is also how I felt. 1.23's battle system was slow, clunky and not that deep. Not to say that 2.x has a much better battle system, but it's better than it could ever have been in 1.x.

Now, sure, there were several combos and some interesting abilities (I hope to see them being reintroduced as the level cap goes up), but the long recast times on the stronger weaponskills meant that you were forced into a particular rotation of abilities, as opposed to the more priority based system we have in ARR. In 1.23, you started with your strongest (eg, Chaos Thrust with DRG, I think), and then you progressively went towards your weaker combos whilst waiting for the cooldowns (some of which were over 60s long) and then start again.

    So deep, it was.

Isn't this like the second or third one of WeiShan's 1.0 v 2.0 threads? And I even think one of them was closed.

Don't care if it's right or wrong to be honest. Just pointing out I've seen a thread with similar subject matter from the same user.
I expected they wouldn't actually be around any more, considering there are posts from December complaining about how this game isn't what it was before. Apparently, I was wrong. But they are leaving this week.
