Some people can't take criticism even if it's constructive. I was doing a LLDF with my Monk and the tank would mark and then lose aggro on that marked target as well as everything else charging the healer. After we wiped, I asked him....

Me: "Are you flashing.?"
Him: "Yeah, LOL, I had all the aggro.. that's why I died first."
Me: "No, you died because the healer died. Everything is running all over the place. Just flash a 3 or 4 times to start and it should be fine."
Him: "It's just a lowbie dungeon, who cares?"
Me: "I'm not mad, haha. I have both tanks I90 and was just giving advice."

And then he dropped.

I applaud you people that can make fun out of nothing, but the majority of people aren't like that.

What he mentioned isn't "nothing". At least no more or less than everything in the game is nothing. If all you care is about progress, progress, progress any MMO is going to get boring pretty quick at the endgame grind. The content isn't going anywhere. For me personally though it's about playing with people. If not for my FC I would have given up on the game and the DF grind ages ago. We have fun and laugh our asses off no matter what we're doing.

I have impatience only if someone is continually making the same mistake. I spent most of Garuda HM my first time back in the day getting hated on in this one instance because the other party members assumed I was the reason why the plumes weren't going down fast enough and messing up the rocks. Turned out the other DPS weren't helping with the plumes because they thought they were going to burn Garuda (mind you, this is the beginning of the fight where it's identical to the first fight LOL).

People are really cranky on this game, it seems. I'm not sure why. It's a game. Have fun with it. If it makes you enraged, find something else to do.

From the forums, you'd think that FFXIV's community was a steaming cesspool, where the majority of players are rude or condescending. In practice, though, I've found the opposite to be true - the vast majority of players are, if not openly friendly, at least neutral or tolerant. Running into jerks does happen from time to time, but it's far from the most common case - and even when you do, those jerks are usually more interested in getting the instance done quickly and efficiently than they are in putting folks down, contenting themself with a snide comment or two but otherwise cooperating with the run.

The forums paint a different story, because if someone posts its because they've had a bad experience. It's hard for me to even imagine someone posting a thread called "Awesome run" ("Had an awesome Brayflox (Hard) run today! Went smooth, and the tank let me grab the treasure on the spiral staircase cuz I'm farming accessories!), and even harder to imagine that thread staying on the front page due to its running on for twelve pages of heated debate.

No, if you see a thread about a run, it's going to be about a BAD run, either complaining about a jerk, or posted by a jerk complaining about the noobs who wouldn't listen to his or her awesome and ever-so-polite advice. The fact that only a few of these per day show up on the forums, in a game with tens of thousands of players doing several instances each per day, is a good sign that the community as a whole is polite and/or friendly.

Take some consolation in that! It's not as bad as you might think. Jerks sure do have a talent for bringing down your day, though.

That is actually quite true. Although I've seen a few threads where players what to thank other players for a good run even after some unfortunate event had happened.

But for comparison, in another Ifrit HM run I've done. I simply asked, "who will do LB on the nails?" and a SMN or two or a BLM pipes up and said "ME ME MEEE!!" Those runs usually do great. When people communicate it works. When I am met with the silent treatment, I usually know it is not going to end well.

So it is not the fault of the content. It absolutely is the people. People is what makes the game more interesting and more fun. It the a game for the players, and the players have the power make this a great experience and great community.

People aren't being douches because they have to do grinding, it's because they feel entitled and think that they're more important then everyone else. That is the reason they do it, and like it was said by others, IT IS NOT AN EXCUSE for acting the way they do. Where you came up with the thought of it being because of grinding is confusing, because if people are really so upset over grinding that they're being d-bags to others because of it, then they're brain damaged, because anyone that gets that upset over it, would have quit. No right minded person is going to sit there and punish themselves over and over to that point. Drop the "majority of the playerbase" crap, because unless you or anyone else that uses that line have interviewed enough of the playerbase to get valid results, then you don't know what the majority of the playbase likes or doesn't like.

And if you think the game is such a chore, and you're having no fun with it, then why are you even playing it? Grinding is part of the game, get over it and just be glad it's not anywhere near as bad as it could be. And FYI, no one is on a high horse, you're just pissed because everyone else refuses to agree with you. You're honestly being no better then the people this thread is directed at.

It's the elitist end game mentality.

People don't want to deal with bads. They want every run ever to be 100% perfect with a minimal 1 wipe. This mentality gets so out of hand that people can't give proper criticism without someone taking it offensively.

The worst part of that mentality is that overall it will only get worse over time it.

You have to keep in mind, OP, that for some people, this game is all that they have in their life. Their gear, their mounts, their time is worth everything to them.

Also, they are stupid. There's that too. "Hey, let's join DF groups and expect 100% flawless victory" Fucking herp de flerp.

Because they know you can't reach through your screen and smack their souls out of that waste of space they call their bodies.

I hate when a player jumps into a fight pretending to know it instead of saying that he/she/it is not experienced with it.

Better to have people groan at you at the beginning of the fight instead of being called out as a noob after you cause a wipe.
