    [Suggestion] New Companions

    One of the coolest things added in 2.0 in my opinion was the addition of the Chocobo Companion, and is something I have yet to see in any other game. However I feel that this system could be expanded upon in so many ways, and the idea came to me when they introduced the new Ventures system for your Retainers.

    As much as I love running around with my Chocobo when I'm leveling a new class or doing my beast tribe dailies, there are sadly only so many ways you can dress a chocobo up to make him unique and even then a Chocobo is still a Chocobo. I think even in this case variety is the spice of life, and the idea I had was to add more options for companions. For example, say you're tired of running around with your Chocobo but you've completed the Amalj'aa beast dailies. Perhaps instead you could summon an Ashsworn to fight at your side? Perhaps after reaching a certain rank you can buy consumables with GC seals that allow you to summon a member of your company to your aid? Maybe even call your Retainer to fight with you?

    Honestly the possibilities for this kind of system could be endless if they implemented it, and they could add all kinds of hidden companions you could unlock via achievements, questlines, dungeons, or whatever else. Perhaps make it so that each of these companions only had a single path they would level down, but they each got unique abilities tailored to them that would make them stand out more, or heck even if they just fit into one of the three current chocobo builds I think most would still enjoy it.

    I'm eager to see if any others share my opinion on the implementation of something like this (if not exactly sharing my ideas), and what kind of companions would others want to see added?

    I just want the Path Companions from 1.0 to return - I miss my sultry, bisexual miqo'te GLA Companion and her constant flirting.

    Of course given the fact the Path of the Twelve has become the Scions of the Seventh Dawn, calling them 'Path Companions' would no longer be relevant, but I'm sure SE could easily think of a new name for them. Just as long as they return and can be summoned at will is what I would love to see (in fact, it's probably the main addition I wish Yoshi would add to this game).

    This was something I was considering as well when I thought about this, though I doubt the Path Companions will ever return considering Yoshida pretty much removed them from the game the second he took over when there wasn't really any reason to until they added Chocobo Companions.

    Ahahaha I love the idea of getting high enough rank in your GC in order to lug around some Recruits or Privates. I wouldn't even care if they were level five, all the time, with no chance for growth. Blow your whistle, out pops a Storm Private Second Class (or a whole team of them!) (with an appropriate /gcsalute to their superior), and you order him (or them) to charge headlong into Treasure Hunt mobs or Beastmen Dailies.

    Anywho, I like where this is going, OP, but since FFXIV is leaning more toward a traditional Final Fantasy, I don't see us getting more than our Company Chocobo.

    Although, the dev. team could take a page out of the FFXI dev team's book, which apparently has a similar companion system to what you're asking. (Disclaimer: I've been away from FFXI for two years and I'm only going by what I see on the forums.)

    Does it really? I haven't played FFXI since back in the days of Treasures of Aht Urhgan. All the more reason then that this is a valid suggestion!

    However I'm not really suggesting that we be able to summon a whole team of people to fight by our side, my suggestion is more about adding variety to what we already have, allow us to replace the chocobo as our companion with other options, though I don't care if they kept it so you could still only summon one at a time.

    I rather see NPC Companion instead like the Retainer system instead of Chocobo. Similar what they did in FFXI.

    This is actually something I wish I could have seen in 1.0. Maybe someday we'll have something like it again for ARR.
