This.

The whole premise goes over these diehards screaming, "NO LEVEL CAP!!! IT'LL ELIMINATE OLD CONTENT!" Guess what people, old content is just that, old. MMOs do not just stagnate at one level for years and years. That is something SE has the market on.

Staying at the same cap means side-grades. Only so many side-grades can come before you have every type of situational gear possible. When that happens you either: A) Don't have anything left to chase. B) Upgrades come.

When upgrades come, the old gear is obsolete. When old gear is obsolete, old content is obsolete.

So since the whole premise of these arguments are, "Wahhh, old content got old and outdated," try looking at why they got out-dated. Hint: It has absolutely nothing to do with the level cap increase.

Another hint: Upping the level cap doesn't mean that gear -has- to be upgraded. Look at Empress Hairpin, Leaping Boots, the MNK drop off that Yagudo NM, Moldavite Earring, etc. All gear that lasted through many levels. The thing that killed old content in XI was: 1) Players no longer wanting to run the same crap for 5+ years for minimal gains. 2) New gear becoming upgrades instead of just side-grades.
