Can't equip myth gear on retainer??

I leveled my retainer started giving it pieces of gear i had stashed away from dungeon runs etc. Someone I spoke with recently said that they equipped their retainer with all myth gear. I haven't been able to do this myself.. Is this a myth ( no pun intended) or a bug? Its an archer/brd lvl 50

Your retainer can only level classes, your myth gear is for jobs yo.

You know this actually gives me a ideal that SE should provide a special quest that will allow our character to train our retainers to become Jobs.

A little side-quest series with a story around like the Job Quests.

I'd love retainer side quests for jobs, as I would really love to gear them in say BLM myth set, SMN myth set, though I'd guess fish, botany, and miner ones would feel left out

You cannot equip your retainer with AF gear as that is Job specific and AF is for advanced jobs only, you cannot equip Dragoon AF on a Lancer for example. You can however equip your retainers in Darklight, CT, Coil, or Noct Gear if you had extra lying around.

A side note if you want to farm up extra Allagan for your retainers put yours on them and you can get a 2nd set, the unique factor does not take what your retainers are wearing / holding into account. I recently stripped my Mages to gear up my retainer and started farming T1-4 again to replace what I gave to my retainer.
