I view it as pure laziness and totally devoid of inspired thought. The inherent blandness of the scenery (BECAUSE of copy and paste issues) coupled with the glaring aggro icon lots of mobs have as erased what pretty scenery was left.

The immersion factor in the game via landscapes is absolutely minimal

Oh and every airship and ferry was the same.

Yet no one complain about how lol copy and pasyed the aitships were. Or how lol copy and pasted the character customisation or how lol copy and pasted all the weapon skills were set ups were.
I really don't understand how you can say you didn't notice copy & paste graphics in FFXIV and say at the same time that it was so obvious in FFXI. In FFXI I could travel through most zones without even looking at my map once to see where I was, because there were landmarks everywhere. All I do in FFXIV is checking my mini-map to go from point A to point B since everything looks the same. The camps are the same, the areas are the same, I just need to walk 10 malms to be back to the same place I was 3 minutes ago.

The main difference is that we don't have to look "hard enough" in FFXIV to notice the copy/pasted terrain as it is obvious and clear. Now indeed, and obviously there were copied stuff in FFXI but they never bothered me because every place was different and unique. Since the alpha, all I see is we have 5 huge regions and that's it, no lore, no uniqueness, no magic, nothing. When I started in Limsa and saw the names of the camps, like Cedarwood for example. I thought cool I am going to see something different in this area, cedars here and there. But no, nothing differs, this camp feels like every other camp. Blackbrushes around Camp Blackbrush ? A small pond and magical bushes near Camp Tranquil ? Old bones à la Tahrongi Canyon around Camp Drybone ?

They wouldn't have to change that much, but take for example the red flowers you see when you walk to Camp Tranquil, you almost never see anything special in any area that when I walk by these flowers, first I know where I am, then I am thrilled to see something different. Wouldn't you be happy seeing an oasis when walking in a neverending desert ?

As for character customisation, it's not that different from the one in FFXI, we don't have that many choices. And about weapon skills, the character animations were indeed copied but the weapon skill animation in itself was enough to have us not being bothered. If I look at my lancer now, seeing that my low rank weapon skill looks the same as my rank 50 is just not acceptable.

I actually don't mind it and am used to it by now. But I guess for future areas, perhaps the copy-paste method should be minimal at best...lest we want a whole wave of people (new and the old) to complain once more...

This is probably my biggest disappointment with XIV. In XI, everything felt so unique. I know things were copied even there, but you barely noticed it. At least, I barely noticed it.

In XIV, the copy/paste is so overtly blatant, it is hard to ignore. The landscape all over is just so uninspired and boring. It just makes me think, "you guys had all this time to develop this great, new world and this is what you came out of development with?"

Ummm.... these "camps" are just outposts where aethrytes are posts right?

I'm just making a point also no one complained about ffxi being copy and pasted, yet if you look it is there. I've also need worst copy and pasted in DCUO, yet no one does. Mostly because I was looking for it. I put too much focus on the copy and pasting rather then other stuff on the game.

With these camps. Ppl name camps for various reasons. Don't mean they are near a landmark. Drybone can be a tirbe or a tribal leader.

Remember guys most of this worlds back story is about how unsettled the area was and having various tribes untill they settled into ala mihgo then resettled in 4 other townships.

Like I stated you see it if you look for it.
every zone in ffxi has some form of copy and paste. If you look at them. Like canyon with the bones was similar the maze which is similar to the chasim. They use the same bones.

DCUO is alot worst then ffxi in the size of the world and the copy and pastedness. Yet no one in DCUO complains

so why don't I see it then in the many youtube videos?

All i know is juston.tv made a blind hate rant about it. Someone saw this and fed into a global hystaria. Since I don't see it and think he was a ###### for saying it.

This is the topic everyone likes to complain about, however, in my opinion there are only a few places within thanalan and La Noscea where I feel like I'm wandering the same area.

Gridania is much worse and probably the only major culprit of this thing you call copy-paste.

One of the reasons the areas do seem so large and monotonous is because of the transit time between place to place when walking. At walking speed, the monotony is heightened because you are slowly passing every element by. If we were rushing by on chocobos to get to places, I don't think we would get the sense that the world was one repeating mess after another, in fact, I think we would enjoy the large expanses of land on which to roam.

A good deal of us in the alpha and beta of this game complained about the heavy copy/paste on the beta boards. And long before that dude went on his tirade. Just because someone publicly goes on a nerdrage fest about something doesn't mean that other people can't share the spirit of his opinion, albeit not his reaction.

I do believe that the amount of noticeable copy/pasting is noticeable.. but for one thing I am glad that everything looks beautiful turned up high. If reskinning was an option I would definately vote for it, but I personally don't think it is feasible.
