The one thing I would like to see for FF14, is a "Wardrobe" system like Guild Wars 2

I really don't care for Guild Wars 2 as a "game", but I log one from time to time, just to see what all has changed. Well recently, they implemented a new "Wardrobe" system, and I have to say; it's pretty awesome. Not that the armor-designs rival FF14 or anything, but simply that it's a lot more user-friendly, and I love that it "stores" armor and weapon designs permanently for your account, instead of having to hold onto every individual item that you like the appearance of.

I know it's sort of in poor taste to suggest a developer to copy another developer's solution to something, but I think they really nailed how appearance-customization should work. I also dig that they have item-appearance be Account-wide, so that even your Alts can look awesome while leveling (barring armor-type and Class-specific restrictions).

In any case, hopefully the NA team can relay the message over to the JP team.

Is this the appropriate forum for this? You're in New Player Help.

Sadly, I'm not high enough level to post anywhere else, so my options are limited (though if a Mod can move this thread to a more appropriate forum, that would be excellent!). I figure, "Hey, I might not be the most committed player and I suck at leveling, but hopefully the odd suggestion will help make the game even more awesome"!

Also, since I didn't really offer any description of what this "Wardrobe" system actually entailed, I'll go ahead and do so now...

Basically, the Wardrobe system keeps track of every weapon or armor design in the game that you've ever equipped (or has simply been Soulbound), and it adds it to your "List" of usable appearance items. So, on your Character-sheet, you would basically get another tab, labeled "Vanity", and whenever you click on a piece of equipment you're wearing, it would bring up a list of your unlocked appearances for that item. That way, you don't have to hold onto anything that you don't actually *use*, which is all kinds of awesome. Here's kind of a loose break-down for how it would work in practice:

    - Equip Weapon A, which has awesome stats.

    - Get Weapon B from a Boss or Quest, which automatically unlocks its appearance

    - Sell/dust Weapon B

    - Open up the "Vanity" window, click on Weapon A, and then change its appearance to Weapon B

    - Continue kicking arse

The current system isn't necessary *bad*, but it seems like maybe it needs a little refinement to be more user-friendly. And also, by making it Account-wide, it would open up the option for"

    - Get awesome-looking armor on Character A that he doesn't need

    - Log onto Character B, and use the Vanity system to "wear" said armor

    - Done.

I think a cosmetic system like such has been around for a long time. IMO Lord of the Rings Online uses the best system, though unfortunately the graphics for that MMO is a bit outdated :P I can understand if FFXIV devs have limited the "skins" for our characters because of design limitations but if they do implement something that will give us players more freedom to customize our characters' wardrobe, I hope they don't make it too expensive and/or tedious.

btw OP, I believe if you have a character that is at least level 25 you can already post on the suggestions forum

I know most "free-to-play" mmorpgs have this through their "cash shop" honestly though I like the fact that in FFXIV we pretty much all have access to the same amount of stuff across the board. I can't stand when they limit stuff to ONLY certain members etc. But if they did do it, and it was available to all members (without limitations) I think that it would be an awesome idea!!

Yep, it unlocks at level cap. You don't even have to hold onto the item you apply the appearance of unless you want to use it again in the future.

Therein lie the two problems, I think. I'd like to see the system re-worked so that, as long as you had the item at some point in the past, you can safely get rid of it and still use its appearance later on. That way, you have complete and total customization of your appearance, without it completely annihilating your inventory-space. As well, personally, I'd like to see opened up prior to max-level, and perhaps a little more straight-forward payment (it sounds like a bit of a confusing process to even do).

That would be a big improvement. This game has significant inventory space issues, at least for those who are pursuing crafting. If all of someone's available space is being used up by crafting ingredients, it's hard to save a lot of cosmetic gear as well. We need some condensed way of saving available appearances.

Level 50 is a ridiculous time to unlock a cosmetic system. While there's nothing wrong in it needing to be unlocked rather than immediately available as soon as you enter the game, it should be rather soon into the game or it loses most of its purpose. I'd think around level 17 or so would be a good point at which to unlock it. That would put it half-way between the dye system (which can be unlocked at level 15) and the materia system (at level 19).

And crafting classes should be able to make the Glamour Prisms for the level they're at. For instance, Grade 1 Glamour Prisms are for gear in the 1-20 range, so crafting it should be available to DoH classes in the middle of that range, making it level 10 for Grade 1 Prisms, level 30 for Grade 2 Prisms, level 50 for Grade 3 Prisms. Then perhaps that recipe book quest could unlock level 4 and 5 prisms. But let people do the low-level stuff while they're still low-level. (That's a recurring problem with this game. SE keeps locking low-level stuff behind high-level requirements. Requirements should match what they're unlocking better than that.)

Unfortunately, my subscription runs out tomorrow, so I thought I would bump this, in hopes of making it into the game down the road! It would greatly improve the overall experience, I think, and even better if they could not only make the Wardrobe usable at lower levels, but maybe also simplify the entire process of changing your appearance, as well.
