Making Gil

Ok so atm I am level 34 Archer/Bard. I also have mining up to 17. Up to now I have been farming shards. Mainly lightning or fire. Is there any other way to get a flow in gil coming in other than shards, cause honestly... After about 15 minutes of mining I feel like I am jamming a nail in my eye. = (

For mining to cash in gil keep and eye on all of the shards and stones like on my server the shards vary day by day and earth and water was the highest but it changes.. An always check the market board for any hearted items.. As well as what crafters need for the new crafts.. Another thing I did while leveling miner get a stack of 99 of the new stuff you get the most exp on while getting the shards as I get the gp back to gather more on the +gathering node..
And there is also doing duns as you level your fighting class because each mob drops so many gil ..
Another tip I got try to do your challenges every week where it gives a good 1 or 2 k for a challenge completed and most of them are pretty easy and things you would do regardless

Oh last thing for the boring grind of shard mining put on a movie and do both makes the time flow an things not as horridly bad

There are some things you can do both at your current level and when you level up.

Starting with the stuff you can do right now~
Do level is your daily roulette. As you level up and unlock more content, more roulettes will become available to you.
Each roulette will have a gil bonus along the exp/tome bonus. ^^

Do side quests and story missions, picking the money prize (allagan coins)
Once you get higher up in levels as a miner you can mine up timeworn maps. They can generate 1.6k-5k gil a map.
Mind you, you can only gather them once every 18hrs but you can complete as many maps as you want.

You can also send your retainer out on ventures or alternatively, send them to mine stuff for you. They will bring in allagan coins as well as other misc stuff. Sometimes, that stuff will sell nice...other times... not so much lol. Just remember, your retainer can only level up to whatever level you have of that job. So for miner, it would be level 17. Furthermore, it can only gather stuff that you have gathered at least once. So if you get miner to level 50, your retainer's miner can go up to level 50.

At later levels are beastmen quests which all give gil as a part of their rewards.

Another option is to do your leves. They accrue slowly but if you let them build up some, you can blow through them to level miner or a craft, or even a DoW/DoM class you can make a pretty penny. Even without exp reward they will still drop gil.

Lastly, try and complete your challenge log. It gives a nice bonus of gil weekly.

A tip for using AH. Always check the sale history and try to monitor the market.
Prices will vary throughout the day so try not to undercut. Sometimes, it takes a bit longer for stuff to sell but imo it is worth the wait.
Finally, try not to flood the market with a particular item.

If you don't enjoy mining, you shouldn't be doing it. This is a game. It's intended for fun. Pick the parts you enjoy and just make money doing those. Nearly every activity in the game can reward gil.

As for myself, there are days I want to do something fun and exciting in the game, and those days I focus on questing or dungeon runs. There are other days when work has been hectic and I'm tired, and I want something relaxing rather than exciting. Those days I spend on gathering. The game has activities at a variety of paces because at various times people want activities at a variety of paces. You shouldn't be forcing yourself to do the pieces that don't match what you're looking for in a game.

If you're going to craft early on, start with something like weaver, and make thread and cloth, and sell that that. It's easier on your wallet then goldsmithing is.

Also, keep in mind that from lvl1-50, you'll have acquired somewhere around 250-300+ thousand gil just from doing quests. If you refrain from spending your money wildly, you should come out with the better part of that gil.

As for making money through mining, you just gotta study the market board, and be aware of what sells and what doesn't. Shards will pretty much always sell, but there are many items that will fetch a higher price. You just gotta play the game.

I'd argue that if he has a Miner, Goldsmithing is more self-sustainable than Weaver. Weaver actually consumes a lot of Lightning Shards, compared to Goldsmithing's Wind Shards consumption. Goldsmithing is pretty self-sustained as well, in that it mainly uses the stuff you get as a Miner, compared to needing materials from other classes. Different servers, different economy though - however I am speaking from personal experience here.

The bulk of a Goldsmith's cost comes from the Ores - ie. Silver Ores, Mythril Ores. For Weaver, it's the amount of Shards spent.

You can also buy things that some lower levels don't have access to yet like certain crafting items from higher level areas, buy low sell high. But if its anything like my server, once the bulk of players catch up, the prices drop quite quickly. I've found items like gysahl greens always seem to sell at a higher rate on the market, p!us once you unlock beast tribe quests, even the neutral venders sell some crafting items that go for a good price

And thus He's able to sustain the shards for weaver, which uses no more shards early on then any other craft. And seeing as how he has been mining mostly lightning shards, he'd be fine. Weaver is also much more sustainable then goldsmithing is early on, with or without a botanist, where as goldsmithing relies on you having a miner at the same time so as not to bankrupt yourself crafting.

I'd say go goldsmithing but... honestly it depends because it does mean you'd want to gather if you're gonna craft anything that needs ores or any gatherable mat to save a gil seeing if you buy stuff via market board even if it's cheap the it adds up over time and eventually you will spend a good penny just buying all the time when you can gather some stuff instead and not spend nearly as much. (I'd rather not shove anymore nails into your poor eyes though.) :x

Anyways the reason I'd say go goldsmithing?

They don't always have accessories to make in some levels but they will always be the one class that can do it and accessories = spiritbinding = materias to sell. (Plus most accessories can be worn by any class at higher level and are easier to change to sb than gear would be. Class restrictions changes with gear as certain gear as the player gets higher becomes more restricted than just Disciples of War gears or All class mage gears but doesn't change with most accessories and in crafting they are shared between crafter jobs making them a pretty important piece for any crafter to have.)

tldr; Accessories are pretty flexible to what class can wear them and are often SB'd into materia's which for higher materia's are always being sold strong for least 10k per materia if not higher depending on the materia. (ingots and other stuff aren't bad gil either sometimes but that depends on the server.)

But keep in mind that almost all if not all crafts hit a point where it'll ask them for mats that come from a completely different craft. (Like on weaver I needed ingots to attempt some recipes.)

Edit: Yes of course this won't apply for some people who are willing to gather/craft their own stuff but it doesn't change the fact that people will use accessories for leveling and for sb'ing for materias. :x

Another trick to making gil is to be patient because the biggest way people make gil is selling stuff and making it over time. No one has a real reason to spend any gil on here yet aside from being too lazy to be asked to do the work themselves or being new to the game putting the non-crafters aside so you'll have to just wait for stuff to sell for small chunks and allow the gil to build over time.
