I will each sunday post a debate thread. What will hopefully differ these from normal threads is that I want to focus on qualitiative arguments over unwashed and filthy dung tossing between each side.
Each poster shall say if they are for or against what I ask here and PUT UP THE REASON BEHIND WHY! No mud throwing, just arguments why you think like you think.
The subject will be chosen on what I find is a burning topic. And to start it off I will take a topic that has been up on the wall for as long as this game has been out and seem to have gotten it's flame rekindled. Namely the punishment for dropping a duty.
Remember, in difference from alot of other threads this is not a tread in where I search sympathy for whatever opinion I have, but to create an open debate about a topic. Show each other respect please no matter what opinion they have on the matter of choice.

The reason why I am for this is because I think that as it stands now with the vote abandon feature there is always the posibility to leave a group that seems to be unable to clear the task given to them.
There is however the argument that you might not want to do a specific instance that pops on your daily roulette. But infact, you do when you agree on doing the roulette for it's rewards agree that it can be one of several instances and that the people you will meet might be less geared than yourself.
I know alot of people do this roulette as a way to easily grind tomes of mythology, but that does not deny the fact that there already are several other tools more fit for the task than the duty roulette. For example so is there Party Finder in which you can build parties with premade criterias and where everyone is on the same page about what is about to happen.
The reason why I find this needed is the fact that tanks and healers sometimes drop out of an instance the moment they see it is one they dislike. Common ones being Pharos Sirus and Amdapor Keep. This is because they find the Myth/hour ratio being bad. This would not be an issue if it wasn't for the fact that the requeue time for DPS classes are high. It is not quite as bad as when the game launches but it still feels.
Beside the obvious myth/hour decrease this gives a DPS it might also prevent in game progress. Amdapor Keep and some undesired low level instances are still non the less needed for some players to progress and the reason why the duty roulette was put in the game in the first place was to encourage experienced and higher leveled players to interact and help low level players to get through the game and not to make the weekly farming go faster.
Therefore I find a more severe punishment for ragequitting being a fundamentally good thing. It will turn away some people who had no intention to help out in the first place but only looked for the rewards it might reap and it will make progression for everyone else go faster and smoother. The fact that we have vote abandon if something does not work out along the road only further justify an increasement of the punishment given for droping a duty.
The reason why I doubt that the current 30 min lockout is hard enough is because I saw a much lower droprate when Square Enix increased the old lockout to 30 minutes. That is a good thing, but I think a further expansion of that is only natural now when we have Abandon duty in case something goes wrong. Remember, the reason you should be able to leave a duty is if that happens. With a further punishment I think that the rate in which we get players who drop out even before the duty begins will drop dramatically.
SE also needs to fix the bug in which leaving before everyone has watched the cutscreen does not get the punishment fixed ofcourse, otherwise this will be sorta pointless.
As a compromise for this however, I think that the rewards for the daily roulette should be increased to reflect this increase in "risk" and the time before you can vote abandon shall be decreased to five minutes from fifteen. This is because in some cases it might be obvious that some tasks will not work after just that time. Titan HM is a great example of that. In a Titan HM run it is pretty easy to see when it will not work out after 5-10 minutes. This is to prevent that people will waste more time than needed while still making it as unabusable as posible.
