    Lack of Game Play Diversity

Lack of in-game occurrences and events (not talking about seasonal events). Let's face it, this game has no true reason to explore the world of Eorzea once you get a job to 50 and complete the ridiculously easy Main Story.

Why do I want to do the same FATES over and over and over again? Why do I want to do the same Leves over and over and over again? Why do I want to do the same instances over and over and over again? Why do I have to rely on a group to get things done? What is the point in gear grinding? What is gear grinding helping you do other than grind to get more gear? THIS if not resolved WILL greatly effect this game's long term future.

There are cannons in Coerthas. Make some real in-game events. 30 minute random raids where people have to defend. Instead of the place looking aesthetically pleasing like most places, this can actually be ruined and damaged over time and become a contested zone where you can't port to until the zone has been neutralized.

Because all the development time and money has to be spent on keeping the people who farm Coil all day from getting bored.

I agree completely, the game is great, but it becomes dull very quickly. It looks like the developers have gone the route of focusing on making end-game content hard to keep players interested, instead of adding variety across the spectrum.

If they play that game they will eventually run into problems in the future, because every other MMO is also churning out challenging end-game content.

Reminds me of basic economics, they are creating a MMO service that is easily substituted with any other MMO service, if we don't have unpredictable events or "fun random content" there will be no lasting memories players can share together and keep them in love with FFXIV.

    I don't want another GW2.

Don't really think you grasped my point. That was an example of something you can do to spice things up a bit and make the game more interesting. That's not a definitive, "THIS IS WHAT NEEDS TO BE DONE! DO IT NOW!" :P

    Erm suggestion noted then?

You're basically suggesting open world, non-party based, zone-sized (so large scale), goal-oriented battles where we contest for zones by capturing specific points or fulfilling certain goals?

I'd assume the developers have considered this open world game feature, which GW2 has, and I'm sure they did their homework on what features to implement but instead they decided to focus on end-game instanced content.

    -------------------

And what's stopping this from becoming boring in itself? It seems repetitive and after you defend a zone a few times, if it's predictable, it soon becomes no more fun than one of our run-down over-farmed predictable dungeons. Now if the enemy forces used random tactics and everyone had to react and you had surprises or giant unexpected monsters that got summoned now and then in different random locations every time, perhaps it could be fun?

Just to use this example....I've never seen this work as intended. usually it becomes a case of Well used zones the "monster attacks" are quickly quashed and it becomes more annoying than fun ( I mean seriously do you think Camp Dragon Head, Fall Gourd Float, Revenant's Toll will ever want for "defenders"?). and disused or low lvl zones are almost permenantly "Captured" and no one cares because no one goes there anyway (I mean how often was Xarcabard/ The deeper side of Yhtunga Jungle outpost actually open, and don't get me started on the mess that Tabula Rasa was)

You'd have to give player an actual incentive to defend the lesser used places... and being able to teleport there isn't enough, and then it would still be a case of, defend the well used places for easy reward/garunteed success. and then pick the easiest to defend places after that, and many other zones would still remain "Perma-Captured"

Ya it's very hard to balance because an open world zone could have unlimited number of players, so any attempt to add difficulty is quashed. And if you made monsters scale in difficulty with number of players, it's harder to add any strategy/tactic element to a zerg of people. Maybe with the right balance it's possible, but regardless any event like this would be a lot of development work for a not-so guaranteed improvement to the game.

Pretty much this. In fact, it's the same issue FATEs have right now. They either get zerged or no one does them. Trying to teleport around Orr in GW2 was near impossible because more than half the zones were locked.
