Theres no skill, No challenge in Farming Fate after Fate of low lvl fates. I dont mind things taking a long time, i played XI, i got multiple Relics in there, it took a LONG LONG time, but i was ALWAYs making progress. I could go into a Dynamis Run and ill get Currency towards my goal. its something i can track, it's something i can anticipate. But with the Atma system, i could spend day nd days and not make any progress, lvl 10 Companion already, so im literally gaining nothing from spamming these low level Fates.
The Books after Atma? Great, it's substantial, its something with a clear goal and its something you can get constant progress on by putting in the time, i Like the book system.
we're not asking for SE to hand us anything, we're asking them to give us something substantial, something that we can Mark off progress for whenever we decide to work on it
(By the By, i got all 12 Atmas in 2 or 3 days, so im not whining just because it took a long time, so try another argument.)

No reward? So once you get all 12 atmas that's it? If that were the case then no one would do it. the reward is upgrading your relic weapon. It seems like people just want instant gratification. You played FFXI, wasn't the whole idea of the relic weapon something done for the LONG run?

And congrats on getting 12 in 2-3 days. I've only gotten one atma set since they were introduced, so that's what, a month? As I posted before, that's your circumstances, has nothing to do with me. More power to people getting atmas, regardless of how long it takes.

Also, how are you not able to track your progress when clearly items are placed into your inventory, thus signifying you no longer need to hunt said item?

I only fear that i could be one of the minority that will just be super unlucky and won't see drops till a few months after 2.3 ( probs around mid summer )
Even if i farm 5 hours a day, 6 days a week and still not get drops.
It's possible and that's what i don't like and am afraid of.
It's uncertain if it will happen to me but all that matters is am i willing to take that gamble?
Probably no atm as i find that i could be doing other things that will benefit me and others vs. Being an atma hopeful.

I was pretty lucky with my atma... got six in one day, and then the other six took about a week of grinding a few hours every day. Yes, there were a few atmas that gave me a hard time (hours and hours), but generally... I was pretty lucky. I already have my animus, and I hadn't been doing the books THAT hardcore (maybe 1-2 a week if that). Yet... I feel for the people who are still stuck on their atma stage, and feel discouraged... especially because they KNOW the grind that is coming once they FINALLY get their atma.

I received an increase in one weapon damage going up from my Allagan book (i95) to the Animus book (i100), although the stats on the Allagan book were preferable. The reward for what you put in just doesn't feel justified... but, like many others, I wanted the next shiny thing (literally!) and the promise that it will eventually become a much better weapon. I can only assume (hope!?) that the atma drop rate will be adjusted when the next level of the zodiac questline comes out (2.28)... because there will be a LOT of people left behind if that doesn't happen.

I'm enjoying my quest for ATMA's
Sure, it takes time, that is the point, you're working hard to get something nice at the end of it
It's not a requirement to do this quest, only if you want to upgrade your Relic Weapon
i only started my quest on Saturday and currently have 10 ATMA's
    Only 2 to go woohoo!!

Yeah. Managed to snag 2 yesterday/today within a 20 minute interval. 5/12 on the second go.

    Is Atma really worth it?

I have not begun to get my Atma weapon, but I have seen Atma groups rush into a low level areas, clear every fate in the area and leave low level characters without a way to effectively level. The system obviously works, as I have seens thousands of players with the Atma weapons and above. However, the amount of work that goes into gaining the pieces of Atma does not justify the process. The difference between the Zenith and Atma weapons is also almost negligible, with the stats being only a point or two better. The process of farming, not even for a better or newer weapon, just an upgrade, is not appealing to me or other players. Granted, the quests should not be EASY but they should feel rewarding. I have also played games where there are difficult quests for rare prizes, and while they were long and sometimes frustrating, I was never gripped by the overwhelming tedium that goes with Atma farming.

IMO, other than the weapon itself,
    I want game completion, obtain the achievement [Taking It to the Stars] , unlock Novus quest, obtain next achievement..etc ^^;

    thanks you're awesome!

I'm just barely here at the atma "grind" portion of the relic quest. And I've been researching it and sad to see people just complaining about this. Now i haven't even collected one yet but just yesterday i started doingdoing fates around the central shroud and of course i don't expect something to drop after an hours worth of fateting....
but this post got me feeling great, this is my first time playing this type of game (mmorpg) I didnt play ff11 sadly but decided to give this game a try, BEST DECISION EVER. Love this game.
Now because of work and life im not playing as much as I was before I'm looking forward to grinding these atma while at the same time getting tomes for my solders armor and items ^-^ and leveling my lower classes... but slow and steady right??... Lol
    thanks again.

Ps: quick question, i know it's any random fate no matter the level that could drop the atma piece, so do I have to level sync yes right??

Yes, you have to level sync. if you don't level sync, you can't hit the FATE mob and therefore wouldn't get credit for doing the FATE.
